Christopher's Story
Life
Hello everyone. I am in Portland, Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. I am learning new areas and enjoying every minute of it. I had a run through the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. (As the natives would call it "The Gorge") Sorry, if I didn't take any pictures; I was called at the last moment on my rest days. A very good friend that worked with me in the West Oakland Coach Yard took pictures of my last run on the Capitols on June 28, 2005 from Oakland Jack London Square to Sacramento, CA. My girlfriend Mary and I been together for nine years and still living together. We moved from California to escape the high cost of living and start anew.
College
I went to University of Arkansas in August of 1992. At that time the UofA was not diverse and had much racial problems. Then I transferred to ...Expand for more
Fresno State and the school phased my major out! Then finally I went to San Francisco State and graduated from there. College change my life for the better. Franklin High School was a failure to me and damage my self-esteem. The experience of San Francisco State made me whole again. I learned so much about the world and transportation. It challenged me to think and act in a way I never imagine.
Workplace
After graduation from college, I did not know what to do with myself! I had crummie temp jobs for three years. I am glad that I got a job with Amtrak after my girlfriend told me about it. At first, I really did not want it, but it was stable income. After six years, I am happy that I have health care and some benefits. Life has taken me places and continue to surprise me with its' up and downs.
