Christopher's Story
Life
In General
My father was an Episcopal priest, so we moved around a bit, were always well known in every community in which we lived, and us kids were always in more trouble than the other kids... PKs, what can I say.
We lived in Smethport from 1964 to 1975, although I only attended school there through 1974 - my 8th grade year. I finished up high school at Church Farm School - an all boy boarding school near Paoli, PA - graduating in 1978. ROTC in college, flight school, then assigned as a C-130 navigator in the US Air Force. Before graduating high school, I had never been farther away from home than 350 miles. After graduating college, I was never closer to home than 350 miles. I've been on all 7 continents, inside both the Arctic and Antarctic circles, flown around the world in a C-130, hugged the actual South Pole marker, served in five contingencies and 3 humanitarian operations, and visited more than 40 countries around the world. I can order beer in a dozen languages, and have a foreign money collection that is probably worth more than my IRA at this point.
My Spouse
I met Lark in 1985 at an historical reenactment camp out in Worms, Germany while stationed there with the Air Force. I had to go all the way to Germany to meet a girl from Minnesota.
My Pets
From a litter of a friend's pet. Cocoa is a 9-year old chocolate lab mix who eats everything in sight. Also, while trick-or-treating at Halloween a few years ago, my daughters brought home a new kitten... appropriately named Spook since she was an October baby. Her name has since been changed to E...Expand for more
lla. We also inherited a tomcat named Ticker when a drifter left the kitten in my daughter's car at a gas station in Pittsburgh, and most recently we got a terrier named Parcel - the FedEx lady found her on the side of the road with two broken legs, and we offered to adopt her.
My Kids
Two girls (21 and 19) and a boy (16) - all of them just like me.
My Job
Retired from the Air Force after 25 years in uniform. Now working in the civil service as an Exercises and Training officer for a joint task force headquarters element.
I also own a home brewing supply store (the home brew store dot com)
School
Wow, so many things to fill in here.
Biggest crush: in elementary and junior high, it would have to have been Debbie Sellers. We had advanced math classes together and in 6th grade rode a bus together to take math at the high school. When I transferred out of Smethport in 1974, it was to an all-boy school, so no high school crushes at all... although I did have a thing for both Robin Rogers and Mary Reib - two girls in my dad's church, and I dated Cheryl Rhines from church between high school and college.
Most inspirational teacher: in elementary school, Seth Digel. He made class fun. In junior high, Mrs. Hergenrother. I can still sing "3 Blind Mice" in Latin. In high school, Dr. Devenney, who made me understand the practical applications of mathematics. In college, Dr. Pennington, who was a half-bubble off plumb, but made you look inside yourself with a different set of eyes every day.
