Christopher's Story

Life I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the only child of Florence Pohl and Thomas Pearson. Soon after we moved to California where I spent the better part of my childhood in the northern San Francisco Bay area. My father was in home construction and my mother was a nutritionist for the local school district. My father died when I was six years old and several years later we moved back to Cleveland and finally settling in Highland Heights. I attended public and catholic elementary school (and was one of the few unmolested altar boys) and then went to Mayfield Junior and Senior High School, from where I graduated in 1972. I attended Heidelberg College and later the Fenn School of Engineering at Cleveland State University where I got a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1976. I ha’ve been in the television business since I was in college, and I first worked in the TV department of CSU and then at WEWS Channel 5. After college I worked at a number of production houses before landing at the Eastern Campus of Cuyahoga Community College as a TV engineer. I also have been an adjunct faculty member teaching computer science. At the time of my retirement, I was the manager of the AV/IT department. I actually made being a high school AV nerd into a successful career! I also did live sound reinforcement for the 600 seat Performing Arts Center at the Eastern Campus. When in high school, I started riding motorcycles. In my mid-20'’s I started motorcycle road racing at such places as Nelson Ledges and then took up ice racing. I don'’t race anymore, but I still ride, and my present bike, a 1991 BMW K100RS is my tenth. I also just recently restored a 1974 Norton 850 Commando, a vintage British bike. You might remember me being the the junior high school "rocket club" ... well I still fly rockets (see pictures) only much bigger and much more expensive. I've gotten into a niche of the hobby where I cast my own propellant and make my own rocket motors. I moved into my house in 1993 and have spent much of the last 20 years remodeling it. It's easy to spot from the end of the street. Just look for the most heavily landscaped house on the block and you'll find it. Even though owning and remodeling a house is an expensive full time job in itself, I needed another expensive ho...Expand for more
bby to waste my money on, so I took up skydiving. A year later, I obtained my Open Water Scuba certification. I am now a certified technical diver, specializing in deep wreck diving. And before you jump to conclusions: No, I don't have a death-wish. I love life and want to experience it to the fullest. I've traveled all over the United States doing much of it on the bike, and I've been to Europe three times. I visited my family in Sweden in the summer of 2014 and met my fathers side of the family for the first time. I live along with my cat, Felicity in my house in Highland Heights. Although I was engaged twice and have had a number of live-in girlfriends, I've never been married and have no children. I'd planned on a wife and kids after college, but it just didn't happen, and I have no regrets about that. I'm 61 years old, six feet tall, and weigh 195 pounds. I have wavy brown hair, green eyes, and an athletic build as the result of years of weight training and during the summer I sport a pretty good tan. I've been told that I look to be about 45 years old, although I do have a touch of grey. When people first meet me, they think that I'’m rather conservative, perhaps it'’s because I'm quiet, don't have any tattoos or piercing, and am not a slave to current fashion trends, but I'm actually quite progressive in my thinking. I'm a liberal democrat, borderline libertarian, a skeptic and atheist. People have told me that I appear to be the strong, silent type, that is until you know me. My musical tastes are very diverse, from classical rock to Tangerine Dream and have recently become a fan of Trance. I'm not much into soloing the bar or club scene. I'’m very fond of dining out, browsing through bookstores and checking out coffee houses and art shows. I'’m comfortable in a suit as well as in t-shirts and jeans. My sense of humor is strange and rather dry. Monty Python and SNL are favorites of mine. After 37 years I retired from the college (December 2013) and am working on my second career. After I get bored with retirement, I'm planing on becoming an instructor for the Motorcycle Safety Foundation teaching beginning riders. I am also volunteering at the Geauga Rescue VIllage. I have fostered and adopted out a number of kittens in the past and like to work with rescue cats.
