Christopher's Story

Life: Supporting Information Technologies while studying-lecturing in Classical Studies (Greek History/Philosophy) became my pastime for almost twenty years. I have written extensively on Plato and other aspects of ancient Greek history for academic journals as well as presented papers at conferences over the years. I currently own the company I founded, which offers IT support and consultation to small businesses (everything from desktop to mobile to email, web, and network). I lived in Atlanta (GA), Detroit (MI), South Bend (IN), Hendersonville (TN), Houston (TX), and now reside in Indianapolis (IN). I attended different schools from 1978 to 1982 (grades 6 - 9), finally settling in Houston. After high school, I attempted college but could not decide on a path, relocating to Indiana (Summer 1988). I then graduated from IU with two Baccalaureates: Ancient Philosophy (1993) and Ancient History w/ a minor in ancient Greek (1994). Facing the dearth of ancient philosophy-history-Greek Fortune 500 companies / factories, I enrolled and graduated from the University of Cambridge (Darwin College, 1997) with the M.Phil. in Greek History. I then returned to the States and now pursue my doctorate haphazardly on the side. I travelled extensively during my academic pursuits: Costa Rica, Columbia, Mexico, England (Ireland, Scotland), France, Germany, Italy (Rome / Vatican City), and above all Greece. I visited the mainland and Greek isles many times for both fieldwork and pleasure. I married Christina Leann Surface (of Pendleton Heights) in 1996. We met at IU and eloped just before moving to England. We seperated in 2008 and divorced in 2009. YAP! I now live in Indianapolis with our daughter MacKenzie Helena and son MacKade Zeller. I am active in politics and my community: past President of my Neighbourhood Association, Precinct Committeeman for Wayne 04, and member of the Wayne Township Election Board. I am also a member of the Speedway Masonic Lodge, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, and Murat Shrine. My hobbies include expository writing, web design, and automobile restoration. My latest project is an old '83 Datsun 280ZX coupe, which I drove in high school (well ... not the ACTUAL car but the same make and model). I am a serious cigar aficionado and wine collector; I spend what little spare time I have building a cellar and humidors. Please drop me an e-mail. ndersonville (TN) before settling in Houston (TX). I attended different schools each year from 1978 to 1982: Nannie Berry Elementary, Knox Doss Middle School, Hawkins Junior High, and then Cypress Creek Senior High. In High School, I became active in marching band and the gamer's club, not much into sports (except golf) but also working on the debate team and on the yearbook a bit. I already feel some pangs of sympathy for my children. Between their two parents, we have five college degrees, so I think that decision is a foregone conclusion. College: After graduation from high school, I attended Texas A&M for one year, then, when the economy tanked (1986/7), I transferred to North Harris Community College for two. This first attempt into higher education, however, ended in complete disaster. After relocating to Indianapolis in 1988. I attended Indiana University for five years. I took one year off and then went to the University of Cambridge for three terms. I finally graduated for the final time with two Baccalaureates and a Master of Philosophy under my belt -- my twelve year plan. I studied extensively under Drs. Laurence Lampert and Robert Sutton of IU, and they helped unlock my passion for antiquity and Plato in particular. Laurence and I remain close friends and have authored papers and taught courses together. The University of Cambridge, meanwhile, remains one of my most treasured memories. The British educational experience in graduate studies is quite unique and rewarding. I attended Darwin College as a member of the Faculty of Classics. Dr. Paul Millet of Downing College served as my mentor (though I also studied under Drs. Paul Cartledge and Sir Geoffery Lloyd). Since graduation, I have published several papers in peer-reviewed academic journals, a couple of articles for an encyclopaedia, as well as a couple of short stories. If you need ancient Greek translated, call me. My alma mater (IU) permits me to teach part time. I also present papers at various conferences from time-to-time. My area of specialty is Classical Athens (roughly 500 - 350 BCE), esp. the Peloponnesian War. I have also attended vocational classes and obtained both the Indiana Mortgage as well as life insurance producer licenses; I am currently working toward a Securities license as well (Series 6, 26, and 63) -- though I don't really use them. In 2003, I formed my own company (D3 Data Solutions, Inc.), which provides IT support for small companies.
