Christopher's Story
Life
After graduating in 1974, I headed off to the finest educational institution on the planet, Ohio University. Graduated there in 1978 with a Business degree. Went to work right away for Ohio Bell, then jumped to AT&T in 1983. After 18 years with AT&T, I left in 1995 to start a consulting business with an associate of mine in Atlanta. Do Sales and Leadership training work all over the world. Too many people have a job that they wholeheartedly detest, but stay in it to collect a paycheck. We have actually found something that we love to do, and that can be kind of lucrative. With all the travel involved, I have had a wonderful opportunity to see a lot of fantastic places and experience some pretty incredible things. Have hiked in the shadow of Mt. McKinley, wandered the museums and pubs of London, seen the lights of Broadway, and gained a greater appreciation for what we have in this country by observing the economic disparity of Asia. Spend way too many nights in Marriotts and on Continental 737s. Not surprisingly, I never found anybody who would put up with me long enough to get married. Then a couple years back I found the most wonderful woman in the world with the patience to handle me, and two terrific little girls who continuously put things in perspective for me after all those years of carefree bachelorhood. They are "redefining" me, reminding me that I am a "work in progress" for them. Still a sports junkie. Season tickets for Browns and Indians. One of my goals in life is to see a baseball game in every Ma...Expand for more
jor League ballpark. 6 to go, and counting. Try to stay in reasonable shape and play a little baseball and hockey for fun. Coached hockey for 11 years in Cincy and Cleveland until all the travel started. I miss it. There's something exhilerating about telling an 8 year old defenseman to go knock the snot out of the kid in front of the net. Golf game still stinks but I love to play. I keep in contact with a few of the folks from high school like Bill Eichner, Steve Poitinger, Steve Peters, and John Peterson. All those years together in homeroom and we are still pretty tight. Well, that's about it. Maybe see you at the next reunion. Geez, will it really be 30 stinking years???? And if you're ever in Cleveburg, drop me a line. Can't guarantee I'll remember who you are, but what the heck.
Workplace
After spending 18+ years in the telecommunications industry with Ohio Bell and AT&T, I decided it was time for a change. At the end of 1995, I left AT&T to start a consulting business. We do sales and leadership training and consulting work with Fortune 500 companies around the world. I am working harder than I ever have before, but having an absolute blast doing it. The nature of our work provides an opportunity to work with interesting people and to have a little fun with them everyday. I figure that if I am going to work myself into the ground, I might as well do it for myself instead of for some zombied corporate dweeb in a cubicle somewhere in New Jersey. And above all, life is way too short to do something you hate.
