I was not born in a sharecropper's shack in South Carolina! I was born in North Hollywood, California in the midst of World War II. My family had gone to Calif to work in the war effort. Some of them worked in the shipyards in San Pedro. I was born 0n 11-28, almost a year after Pearl Harbor. My sister a couple of years later. My father (married and exempt) finally was drafted into the Marines. He never shipped out, war ended in Pacific. Anyway came back to Albuquerque and grew up in North Valley near 1st and Haines. When to North Fourth Street Elementary (Leroy Brannon was the Pincipal!) Moved to Santa Fe. Moved back to Albq and went to Stronghurst Elem, then Garfield JH (but really went to Valley HS because Garfield JH was over crowded). Moved to NE Heights and attended Monroe JH, McKinley opened and I went to McKinley JH (Leroy Brannon was Principal!). Then Highland HS, Sandia HS opended near my house and I graduated there.
