Chuck's Story
Life
Still living in Fort Collins, Colorado, and my sons (Matthew and Michael) are now 9 and 7 1/2 respectively! How time flies! They are way too cool. . . who would have thought. . . kids!!! :-)
Haven't been to Dubuque since my last update in 2003. I do have family in Ankeny and Des Moines, and often visit friends in Iowa City and Burlington.
I continue to work with kids and music, writing music arrangements for high school camps, college marching bands, as well as drum & bugle corps around the country. I also travel to Florida, Texas, Indiana and California to judge music performances for BOA (Bands of America) and DCI (Drum Corps International.
Personal life update: Did something completely crazy. . . met a lovely lady online (yeah, yeah) from the Philippines. We talked for a couple of months as friends, as she has some music background. We ended up taking a vacation together in Austria to see Salzburg and Vienna, riding the Eurail across the country, seeing Mozart's birthplace, touring 1000 year old castles, and going on a great "Sound of Music" tour, to see many of the places they filmed the movie. Talk about taking a chance in life. . . she's coming to visit me in July here in Colorado, then I'm off to the Philippines for the holidays in the fall.
They say that life gets more predictable as you get older. I wonder just who "they" are, and why "they" got so boring??? LOL
Best concert I saw this year: VAN HALEN!!!! They were even better than I remember from that first time I saw them in Dubuque in 1979!!!! WOW!!!! Talk about Runnin' With The Devil!!!!!
Where I live update: I'm moving in July of 2008. After 18 glorious years in the Rocky Mountains, it's off to the beach! I'm moving to WEST PALM BEACH, Florida to work in a recording arts academy for high school students. I'll be teaching cutting edge hardware/software technologies in a recording studio for ki...Expand for more
ds who want to go on in radio broadcasting, sound engineering or music composition. I'll teach a little jazz on the side, and I believe I will be seen regularly on the beach around Delray Beach, Lake Worth, Boca Raton and Boynton Beach (West Palm area). So next time you see the Weather Channel, and see Florida sinking into the ocean, now you know someone there!
Latest fun projects: Working in local recording studios for singer/songwriters, helping create orchestrations and playing backup parts for CDs. Also working with the winner of the John Lennon songwriting contest. . . a young lady (22) about to make it in the music world. I critique performances, offer insights into musical content, and help with arrangements. Also playing in a rock band for the first time in years. . . electric bass and trumpet. . . band is called "Rock Doctors". Mostly weddings and corporate gigs -- fun way to hear old tunes I like, and get together with friends who enjoy the same. Also sitting in now and then with a group called "Come August" (comeaugust.com) And if you like country/folk style music (New Country?) check out a CD I did the arrangements for by a guy names Steve Conway ("It's About Time"). Went to Nashville to record that one. . . talk about a walk on the weird side. . .
2008 Summer goals: Finish 4 more songs for my first CD. Pack up and move to Florida. Rent my place out, as I would be insane to try and sell it in this market! Create an entire curriculum for recording arts studio. See Steely Dan at Red Rocks in July. Show my lovely filapina lady the top of the world at Trail Ridge Road and go camping in Roosevelt National Forest. Take my kiddos swimming until they become fish. . .
I truly hope you're all doing great -- we may or may not ever meet again -- but I remember much about many of you. (Note: Last statement is in no way intended to blackmail anyone. :-)
