Cindy's Story
Life
B.S. in Agriculture w/Honors from the University of Arizona in 1984, double majors in Agronomy and Landscape Horticulture but my passion was economic botany of desert plants. Some grad school at UA and Northeastern Illinois University in both plant sciences and human resource development  quit both for lack of interest. Did a stint as research assistant at UA developing jojoba as an agricultural crop. Also worked as biological consultant surveying and salvaging rare and endangered plants from construction sites in Arizona. Docent, then Landscape Technician for the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Did lots of volunteer work for the Arizona Native Plant Society, Native Seeds/SEARCH, and various plant related organizations. Moved to Illinoi...Expand for more
s in 1988 to take a job coordinating the internship program at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Now Manager of Horticulture Services i.e. landscape maintenance, arboriculture and plant health care for 380-acre botanic garden. Do some occasional teaching and a weekly garden spot for WGN TV Â go Cubs! Became a nationally certified motorcycle safety instructor in 2001 and love teaching. Perhaps IÂll ride out to Arizona one day on my motorcycle. I miss Arizona terribly but the jobs pay much, much better here. My spare time is filled with as much dancing (Salsa, Bachata, Cumbia, Merengue, Cha Cha, Swing, Balboa, Lindy) and motorcycle riding as I can cram in. Oh, and occasional visits to see my children and 2 grandchildren - almost forgot about them!
