Cindy's Story
I became the school teacher I always wanted to be. The lack of finances forced me to take a summer job which turned into a great full time job in a manufacturing facility that payed a LOT more than teaching (doesn't everything?). Mouthy me starting saying that I would retire by the time I was 45 years old.
On my 45th birthday, I had an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon who took me off work for two weeks in preparation for knee surgery. I've not worked a day since then...be careful what you wish for! Life doesn't always turn out the way you expected.
As a result of the trauma of the surgery, I've been "blessed" with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy or RSD. It is ranked as the most painful disease known. octor! There is no cure. I'm not able to walk for any distance and my steps that I do take are very unsteady. I get around on a scooter or a powerchair... Go granny go!
My husband is very supportive. I could not get through each day without his kind and loving help.
Between he and I, we have three children and they, in total, have eleven children and one on the way. Yep, 12 grandchildren!!!!! Gosh, God is Great! Each one is a gift and so very special.
The kids are a huge motivating factor in my life. They are my joy. I still manage to smile through all my pain. I've gotten really good at hiding behind my smile!
The flip side of that story is that there is not much awareness of RSD, and I would like to find a way to participate in finding a cure so that no one else would have to suffer as I do. That would now be my life's ambition.
I've always had big goals!!!!
