Cindy's Story

An unbelieveable adventure!! I helped the FBI and the US Marshalls capture a US Marshall top 10 wanted fugitive when I worked at a hotel in 1986. It was a man I won't name who escaped with his partner, while in custody of the USMarshalls, by hiding razor blades in their mouths and killing the guards. It started by me noticing that one of his alias names was registered at the hotel from a flyer the hotel had been given and contacted the FBI. The FBI had info from their investigation that the couple was in the Chicago area and planned another heist. The hotel was covered in armed agents within 20 minutes. (except me!) These 2 guys would go to a Bank's Presidents personal home very early before the bank opened and kidnap the whole family and take them all to the bank to have the vaults opened. When the fugitive came in to pay cash for his next night, I reallized by his room number it was him and wa calm, but was petrified inside. Behind him you could see though the window there were agents jumping out of vans with huge guns and were posted on neighboring roofs. If he had turned around and ...Expand for more
saw them, I could have been taken hostage. Thankfully the agents hid quickly and captured him as he left the office. I was contacted by a Los Angeles Production Studio and it turned out that the seach for these 2 men was one of the very first "Unsolved Mysteries shows", (maybe the first) when the series first came out. If you ever have a chance to see this show, you would get the whole scoop. They had a double, "stand-in" do my part on the show so my face would remain uknown, but I was there for the filming to help with real details. They even used a different hotel. They had to do an "update" with the initial first showing because it was ready to air when he was captured. I was honored by William Webster, Director of the FBI, and given a letter and plaque and a $500 "token" amount of money, really a token given the fugitiv and the danger!! What an adventure! But one I would gladly skip in the future if given the chance. Looking back I see how dangerous a situation I was in, alone with him, with no bullet proof vest or anything. Whew! Unbelieveable, huh? What's your story???? Cindy
