Claire's Story
Hi. I live near DC and work as psychotherapist half time. Cut practice four years ago so
I could work on fiction writing. Hah. The impossisble dream, but a great way to live.
Lived in NY, Boston, Dover, DE, Margate, NJ, Washinton, DC, Germantown, MD,.
Today was cheered to see people are paying off K-Mart layaways for people who
can't afford. Going to do tomorrow.
Getting old is the &&&*()&^ pits. Philip Roth said " It's each person's private
holocaust." I agree.
I read way too much. Have step children, an amazing dog, and wonderful husband
on the third try.
Life impacted a lot by Vietnam, the peace movement of sixties and seventies, living with an alcoholic husband, going back to
graduate school, and traveling. If I were rich, which I am not, would spend half
year traveling both here and abroad.
I have had a good life and am very lucky. I think my primary luck is being so passionate about writing and about social needs.
What else. Interesting how I am the same person and yet a totally diffeent person from
the scared little girl who graduated from Mt. Zion in l957. The south ambience is definitely part of
who I am and part of all I write and do.
I miss a lot of names here. I hope these people are not deceased. Hard to believe I'm 72. I keep forgetting it till my body reminds me.I wondered about: Perry Ann Cathcart/Norvelle Robinson/Frances Douglas/Locketta ...Expand for more

hm, and some names escape me though I can still see faces.
Probably my most humorous memory of Highschool is Ms. Lemmon's math classes and the off the board
behaviour of students.
Will spend Xmas in Pittsburgh with husband's kids and grandkids and then, horay, New Year's alone, experimenting with a new recipe. We just conquered chicken pot pie.Shades of the south.
I hope the coming year proves our Congress can get off duff and get some things done.
Have followed SC in news/been a good deal of it with the past governor's romantic travails, and the like.
Well, whoever reads this. Happy 2012.
My goals in life now are to finish my novel and market; start another one; continue seeing clients for therapy; maybe move to Pittsburgh if husband ever decides to retire. What else. Well, I think get more involved in the 99%'ers whom I greatly admire and identify with. Also, to continue via a lot of paths to try and become
a person more open to change, more inward, more loving, more able to offer help to others, and also able to
fight for what she considers right.
If I thought I could physically manage it, I would go to Prague. One city I've not visited I feel a major affinity for.
I am, as you can see, hopelessly verbose. So I rewrite a lot to cut out thickets of overwriting.
Well, damn. Wonder if anyone will read this. Peace and Shalom, Claire Holcomb-Drapkin
