Claude's Story
I graduated from Gladstone high School in June 1969. From there I went to Cal State LA and graduated with a BA in fine arts, 1974. Not knowing what to do with myself, whether to pursue an MA or go to work, I decided to travel to Mexico. I was offered a job in Mexico teaching English at an American School. This lasted for 2 years. After this time I headed south traveling through Central and South America. I loved Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Argentina, Brazil and ended up staying in each country for at least a year. I spent two years riding a bicycle all over South America. From there I went to Asia, traveled all over the continent and decided to settle in my favorite of all countries - India. India is like no othe...Expand for more
r country; once you have been there the rest of the world seems boring. It was the pandemic that started in 2020 that forced me to leave India. I returned to North America and decided to settle in Mexico, where I have lived for the last three and a half years. The 54 years since I graduated from Gladstone have passed by very quickly. I never married, never had children, only traveled. Now I am 73 years old with the beginnings of Parkinson's disease. So, I may not be able to travel as in the past. But I am happy in Mexico. I want to build a little house here and live out the rest of my life in this nice country. I looked in the Gladstone yearbook for 1969 and did not recognize anybody. The few names that I remembered did not register and there was no record of those people ever having attended Gladstone, which makes me wonder.
