Colleen's Story
After graduating from Central MN Christian High School, I attended RBI (now Kuiper College) in Grand Rapids where i met my husband, Bruce Miller. We were married after graduating, went on a mission trip to Mexico (STS), then went to Scotland for a year and a half to work with a church in Perth. Our daughter, Amanda, was born there.
We came back and ended up in Custer MI where Bruce worked as a lay-pastor for the Church of the Brethren. Our son David was born there.
Eventually, Bruce decided to go into trucking and we moved to Grand Rapids for a short time where our sons, Jeffrey and Jeremy were born. Next we moved back to the Scottville area where we've lived ever since. I have worked for Head Start, a day care center, teacher's aide, Kid's Hope director, and church secretary. I was also invovedwith Cub Scouts with my boys, and went on a mission trip to Jamaica. I retired in 2009 and Bruce and I traveled around the U.S. visiting our kids who currently liv...Expand for more
e in Virginia, Alabama, Texas and California. We also worked for three weeks for Direct Response Services under CRWRC in Slidell, LA. We were able to visit other friends and relatives along the way and checked out some vacation spots, like the Grand Canyon, petrified forest, and painted desert.
Since returning home, we have been volunteering for a local ministry called, HELP--Hands Extended Loving People.--which supplies household goods, transportation and financial assistance to those in need. We've also volunteered with the homeless shelter. I am on our mission team and help out with Kids Hope. I've also made a couple trips to VA to help out our son and daughter-in-law who are in the process of adopting a little boy with special needs.
I feel like I just wrote my obituary! It's been and is a great life, and I'm looking forward to what God has in store for the future. We have 9 beautiful grandchildren and I hope to be able to spend more time with them.
