Connie's Story

Life Grew up in Omak, came to Seattle in late 1980, returned to Omak in 1991 when Mom died, moved to Minneapolis in 1993 and worked for the Indian Health Board. Got tired of being so far away from home and returned to Seattle in October, 1994. Decided to stay in Seattle, worked for Associated Grocers until 1996 when I got an opportunity to return to Boeing. Got laid off October 2003 but got recalled Sept 2004 ... less than a year. With the breaks in service, the company clocks me for 21 years which carries some good benefits ... hard to turn my back on that part of my future, but if there were to be a layoff ... I could retire ... a way different approach to that ego deflating process of business. I am the mother of Shawn, 32, Christie, 30, Vanessa, 21 & Andres, 19. Grandmother of Makayla, 8 & Camilla, 6. Son-in-law, Jeremy, 32 brought Taylor, 9 into Christie & Makayla's life on November, 24, 2001. A month later, I married David Brooks and we just celebrated 6 years of marriage! ding vows. Nowhere in the vows do they say that a couple has to live together 365 days of the year to be married. So, he currently lives in Grandview on the family farm while I live here in the Puget Sound area working for Boeing. As I wrote above, knowing I'm 55 ... gives me options to change my direction, if I care to ... and somedays, I really think of changing. My oldest son, Shawn, and youngest daughter, Vanessa along with her daughter, Camilla live with me. Not necessarily the best arrangement, but it works for now. Raising the next generation is something grandparents in this USA tend to be involved with doing ... how could I expect me to be any different? Through all of my travels, I've held firm to the "Reason, Season, or a Lifetime" theory when I've met people. I feel that no matter who you meet in your life, the meeting was supposed to happen. It is up to you to determine what it was about that person was supposed to be learned, or possibly what were you to teach? Let's learn together.
