Colleen's Story

After graduating from Corvallis, I went on to Santa Clara University, where I majored in English. I taught 5th grade for 1 year (1968-69) and decided teaching was not for me. Looking for a job after that was painful--this was back in the days when companies would "rarely hire women for management positions" (an actual quote from a Bank of America recruiter)! Thank God, things have changed for our daughters. I tried to get into journalism, and ended up writing classified ads, but gave up this fascinating career when I married my husband, Rick, and moved to San Francisco where he took a job with--Bank of America! His job in international banking eventually took us to Toronto for...Expand for more
6 years, and Bangkok, Thailand, for over 3 years. Then we returned to the U.S. for a job in San Diego, where we have been ever since. While in Bangkok, I volunteered as an editor for a magazine published by the American Women's Club and finally found my calling. I worked in magazine editing for 12 years, then did freelance editing until my retirement last year. Rick and I have 3 children--2 girls and a boy--and also raised 2 nephews, who we now consider our own. So far, we have 8 grandchildren, but since only 2 of the kids are married at this point, we expect more to come! I'd love to see what everyone else is up to, and hope Norice can succeed in putting together a reunion.
