Collyn's Story
Life
My life in 2000 characters or less?! How high school!! I didn't graduate from Cleveland; we left Seattle in June 1969, but I always felt that Cleveland was my 'real' school. I graduated from the UW in 1974; married my dorm advisor the same year. My daughter and son graduated college in 2001 & 2004. I have lived in Memphis TN; Jacksonville FL; Albany GA; Silver Spring, MD, Columbia, MD. Takoma Park, MD, Germantown MD, and Washington DC over the years. We now live in Jacksonville, FL for retirement. I would love to hear from any Columbia Elementary, Asa Mercer Jr High and Cleveland High alums!
School
I attended 3 high schools in 3 years. I was really just glad to leave school early and move on to college. I have always identified with Seattle as my "home town" and Cleveland High as my "home school". The hardest part of going to high school was that our group was divided between Cleveland HS and Franklin HS. I attended 2 high schools in Maryland before I finally liberated myself and returned to Seattle and started at the UW.
College
I attended the UW back when there was only one campus, the one in Seattle. I completed college in 3 years, most of which I spend...Expand for more
living in Haggett Hall. I lived in 209 in the north tower, part of what was the German language immersion house. I was not a German language student and I don't remember ever hearing even one word of German while living there. I would love to hear from any former residents - especially Anita Hoffman from Olympia WA.
I also attended Univ of District of Columbia for pre-med classes and one year at Howard University College of Medicine. I discovered that I am NOT one of those women who can successfully juggle a professional career and children.
Now that my kids are grown, I may return to school and study subjects I am actually interested in and change jobs to something I'll do not only for the money but because I actually enjoy it!!
Workplace
I have had so many jobs that I have had to create an abridged version of my resume. Not one of my jobs has been significant. I spent most of my mental and emotional energy raising my kids; my jobs were just to pay the bills. Thus I have never had a "career", I have just worked a succession of jobs. I have spent the last 14 years as a federal employee. That alone should tell the whole story without my getting too graphic.
