Connie's Story

My name is Connie R. Williams; I was born in Savannah Georgia. I attended Tompkins High School in 1976- 80. As a student, I volunteer working in the Special Education Class. It was very rewarding the children responded to me sitting on the floor, treating them with respect, this experience plus coming from a large family has encouraged me to work with children. Next, I worked with children at my local church, also in the community foster care, followed by working in different Child Care Centers. Subsequently, I decided to open my own Family Child Care in 1990, while working in my own business I felt the need to continue my education, for this reason I attended to Palm Beach Community College, where I graduated in 2007. Currently I am attending FAU for my BS Degree in Early Childhood. I am also actively involved in the community through different programs which allow me the opportunity to offer assistance to others child care providers. I assist families by offering workshops for CCR&R, FFCCA, NAFCC, and NAEYC, seminars, and one-on-one assistance with new provider and families. Currently I am member of the National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC), National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), it is affiliates with AEYC of Palm Beaches, Southern EC Assn, ECA of Florida. In the AEYC of Palm Beach, I am the secretary and a board member. By being involved in the different associations and programs, I decided to get involved with the QIS program because I like what it has to offer to the provider, the children, their family, and the future. I have been part of the QIS program for 4½ years and have enjo...Expand for more
yed it. I sent my application to the quality rating system in November 11, 2004 and my first assessment report was in March 1, 2005, since that time I have been learning many new ways to teach and approach children, which is helping me to be able to continue to provide a quality care in my program. In 2008, I was nominated by my local community to be a Provider of the week a program sponsored by the award winning PBS series ¿A Place of Our Own¿. In July 2008, I was chosen as the provider of the week and feature on ¿A Place of Our Own¿. I was then nominated as one of the Seventeen Outstanding National Child Care Providers. In May 2009, I traveled to Washington D.C, where I was recognized at the national event on Capitol Hill at the second annual national child care providers awards ceremony. Attended by the president of PBS, members of Congress, executives from BP and public television stations KCET and the corporation for public broadcasting and the senator Bill Nelson, from whom I had the honor to receive my award. Now about my family. I been marry for 22 years with a wonderful guy. I have two children and two grandchildren. There is pictures of them on my facebook under crwilliamsfamilydaycare. The way people might remember me is the quiet person and not stay in one place. The wildest thing I did in school is skip and gone to the beach. I move from Bloomingdale to Douglas also Ty Ty Ga from 1980 to 1987. Then I move to Delray Beach Florida with my husband and two children. I live almost an mile from the beach. This is where we place our anchor; however I miss all my friends from back home in Bloomingdale and Douglas.
