Conrad's Story
Life
After graduating in 1965, my family moved to Orange county California, Costa Mesa, and I began studies at UC Santa Cruz. I started out as a Government major and ended up with a degree in Philosophy in 1970 (I took off for a while to visit family in Chicago and try to see the world). After graduation I moved into the Santa Cruz mountains and hung out for a couple of years. I learned more about photography, tried learning how to play jazz flute, and writing poetry. I'm not that good at any of it. I decided to go back to school and was admitted into the Masters Program at Northern Illinois University, where I was also granted a graduate assistanceship. I dropped out, got married and worked odd jobs before moving to San Francisco in 1975, where I learned to do machining, and worked as a machinist. I moved back to Chicago area in 1980 with my family. ecided learning about computers would be a better skill than machining, so I became a programmer trainee at Sears. I worked at Sears for over 17 years. In August 2000 I decided I had had enough of the midwest, so Jane and I moved to Phoenix, where I am working for Motorola doing program management for their Global Software Group.
I now have four grandchildren. Three boys in the Detroit area and a girl in LA. I met my current wife in December of 1988 after being separated from my ex-wife since August of 1987. Jane and I were married in May 1990 and for our 10th anniversary took a trip to Quebec city and a stay at the historic Chateaux Frontenac. I am active in Church and community activities, I am the treasurer of the Unitarian-Universalist Church. I have recently taken up golf, which is a game invented specifically to drive me crazy and make me feel inadequate and uncoordinated.
