Corene's Story
Life
From New York to California, I live my life. Still with GTE/Verizon/Frontier. A lifer! Love meeting up with former schoolmates. I am busy busy just with myself, no family yet. Traveler/writer/photographer at heart.
School
Attended Elementary School, where I could read before kindergarten, thank YOU, Mom and Dad! Then attended Raymond Cree Junior High because I wanted to learn French, even then. Then on to lovely Palm Springs High, where I kept mostly to myself, yet had a small gaggle of good friends, and we were always having a good laugh. Began attending College of the Desert in 1983 part time, have an AA in Digital Design; getting my Bachelor's in English is next.
Story Wizard Musings...
I hope that old friends remember me as someone as funny as they were serious. I hope that I've been as kind to people as they've been to me. Often labeled 'aloof', the opposite is true.
My first job was at GTE. I loved it. The new company is different.
If I had to name a hero, I would pick my brother Gary. He had a great personality, a fabulous smile that could light up a room, and would give a person the shirt off his back if they were in need. He was one of the 'quietly generous' ones, giving and never wanting anything in return.
Plus he really lived life, he didn't just let it happen to him, or wait to see what sort of hand he had been dealt. He graduated from high school, got married and divorced, and had two beautiful daughters who are quite something. He traveled around the United States and had a sincere talent for meeting new people all the time.

ographical distance between us. So I considered it a real gift when he came to visit Palm Springs again in the fall of 2004, having been away for many years. He ended up staying for two months, time that I treasured. I would come home from work and instead of doing something else, I would spend time at his feet, talking to him about the family, getting his side of various stories and finding balance. I dusted off every cobweb in my memory, talked to him about everything I could think of, even apologized to him for a thoughtless crack I made when I was a kid. He laughed, thought it was sweet and told me not to worry about it.
There are things we know without knowing. He decided to leave in Oct to visit his oldest daughter up in Idaho. I remember the day he left, how emotional I was, and how I noticed that he didn't really look at me when saying goodbye. He did the same thing when he went into the Navy, said goodbye and never looked back while he walked to his plane.
He passed away six weeks later, while taking his afternoon nap, on November 19. He was safe and sound and at peace. Being with him for those two months changed me and the way I look at life. Because he's not here does not mean he's forgotten, neither he or my dad. If I start to get emotional about him, I can remember him saying, "Honey that's sweet, but don't be a pinhead!" How I wish I had more time with him.
So yeah, he's my hero, for the way he lived his life and the way he was with people, a true free spirit. And you want to know what's really nice? I said all this BEFORE he passed away, on one of those emails you get, where you answer questions.
Thanks Gar.
