I love to hunt and snowmobile. I'm still wrenching on other projects. More to add soon OLD WRITE UP: Here is a letter I recently sent to a friend of mine on classmates.com from my hometown school. Due to recent injury and a possible class reunion this year I expect people will have a lot of questions, so I figured I'd add to them now, to avoid all those repetitive questions which gets stressful. Plus something juicy for you to gossip about since I am so famous now! LOL. Dear (the person reading this) On June 19, 2004 I was picnicking with my family east of Manning Park but not in Manning Park. We were starting to have a bbq of fish in an old logging landing. My wife's father used to take her camping there when she was a little girl. About 4:30 p.m. I got up out of my lawn chair and started walking towards the fire. We initially had our lawn chairs by the vehicles for lunch and yet had moved our chairs close to the fire pit. As I was walking the 20 feet to the fire I heard a whistling\whooshing noise. Before I could figure what the noise was coming from, I was on the ground and coming to. A 140 foot dead tree fell from 120 feet away and struck me on the left arm just below the outside of the shoulder. I went flying sideways by the impact of the tree. The result was a broken arm (humerous), four broken ribs, punctured lung, bruised spleen, nerve damage to the left arm, and a minor traumatic brain injury. As of today, March 6, 2007, all my bones are healed, but the nerves are still re-growing down my left arm. As for the brain injury, I hope it's gone but will not know for certain until I am off my medication. I am on meds for nerve pain and to reduce anger\irratableness. I just went for a check on February the 20th of this year, for nerve re-growth in my left arm and the results are not good. My left shoulder and elbow are working pretty good, but my left wrist does not extend. My my first two fingers next to my thumb and my thumb still have some movement and strength. I have a wrist splint that holds my left wrist extended so that I have good strength hanging onto things, such as steering wheels, a drumstick, vice grips, dinner knife, hugging my family, lol. lots more but I could go on forever. I have pictures that I took three months after the accident of the tree. I could send you a link to them if you want. They are on "my space" at msn: whatsgod...Expand for more
toolupto School So after graduating high school in 1987, and then working at the local sawmill in Armstrong for the following winter, I went for a year of college in Vernon 88\89, followed by two years at BCIT 89\91 and 12 months at UBC 91\92. I graduated from UBC in 1992, with a bachelor of education and a job in Rosedale B.C. as a industrial education teacher, woodwork metalwork teacher. I bet you'd never guess that. At BCIT I had a serious relationship with a girl that was to become a Nurse. Once I became a teacher and she a nurse, we moved to Abbotsford. Six months later we went our seperate ways. We had different goals that clashed. I'd also become a social drinker, cigarette smoker, since high school. After 13 great and satisfying years of teaching, metal, wood, drama, computers, and science in Chilliwack since 1992, I married Melisa, May 15, 2004. And yes, I quit drinking and smoking back in 2001, it was time to get serious about life and progress in all areas of my life. Then on June 19, 2004 my life changed. You'd never think you'd get hit by a tree once a person shapes up there lifestyle. Luckily I had all my marks done and my principal was very happy. Plus I didn't have to endure eight days of intense heat in my non-air-conditioned woodwork shop. lol. Melisa and I moved up near 100 mile house back in November of 2006. Since I've been on disability since my accident and I don't see a return to teaching soon we decided it to be a good time to move. We went camping up in the Cariboo summer of 2006 we fell in love with it up here. Plus Melisa wanted to sell her business (stressful, plus wanted to be at home for the kids). Due to the real estate market, our house sold for lots, and we were able to buy a house on 10 acres for less, plus pay off our vehicles, and other debt. Teaching was very stressful but I hope to return to part-time teaching, marking on-line, or counselling before I'm 40. I loved teaching but I don't miss the intense stress of maintaining a shop plus devising and making courses, plus all the other duties and classroom management. I routinely miss the team work, working with others, and the satisfaction, fulfillment, and achievement teaching gave me. So if you want to hear more I can tell you a lot more. I had a pretty good support system down in Chilliwack but out here in the boondocks I am reaching out slowly and meeting a few people but it's going slowly but surely. I'm into 4x4ing, camping, and, watching satellite television. lol. Well that's a lot to write for now. Corey (aka God Tool, Mr. Robertson, HC, etc.)
