Craig's Story

Hi, I'm Craig Sams I was born, raised and educated in Battle Creek, Mi. Washington, Northwestern and Battle Creek Central is where I went to school and met many of the people that to this day had a very profound effect (which was good) on my life. After graduation I attended and graduated from KCC. The whole time I was growing up I was deeply fascinated with music (Walt Disney had a profound effect on me and music). Third grade found me taking violin lessons at Washington School and then Clarinet through Jr Hi school. My Dad's collection of Classical and Jazz records kept me occupied through the years I was growing up as well my mother's guitar which I found in the basement of our home. At age 11 Brent Simmons and I decided to take up guitar..but I stuck with it. Van King also was helping me with piano since he played at Mt Zion Church which we both attended growing up. I also loved flying (Sky King was one of my childhood heroes) and was member of the local Civil Air Patrol Squadron along with John Stevens who later really did join the Air Force. When I was 18 the CAP pilot and friend I did a lot of my flights with Dale Decoe was killed in a flight accident by one his students ...so back to music studies..I attended Baldwin Wallace College in Ohio where I w...Expand for more

Cleveland is where I met my wife Debbie and in '77 we married and 2 years later moved to Roanoke, Va where we had gone for our honeymoon. For a little over 20 years I taught Classical Guitar at Roanoke College and was the Music Director at Cornerstone Church. Currently I teach at Life Academy and still teach privately at my studio at home. We have 3"Kids" : Chris who is 27 married with 1 son (Isaiah Craig) and is performing in the US Navy 7th Fleet Band in Japan and is a Musician 1st Class. Previously he served 5 years in Italy in the 6th Fleet Band. My next son Cameron is 24 and writes music like his dad. Heather is 20 (going on 40) is studying to be a Nurse Anesthetist at VCU in Richmond. I have made many friends along the way in this thing called Life and Living...and plan to make a lot more...but I really want to get back with people that through the years have met so much to me. I have wrote to some of you already and will write to all of you little by little because well there's just a lot of good memories of people I know out there and I would love to find and talk to...or please find me!
