The Santa Barbara Center for the Performing Arts (SBCPA) today announced the appointment of the new Executive Director of the historic Granada theatre. Dr. Craig M. Springer was selected following an extensive international search conducted by Arts Consulting Group, based in Los Angeles. Well over 100 applicants were considered.
"The Granada is home to some of the most influential performing arts organizations in Santa Barbara and is host to a wide variety of outstanding international performers. Our executive director must be a strong leader with a solid background in the arts, theatre operations and education. The position also requires outstanding management skills, business experience and long range vision," said Sarah Chrisman, SBCPA Board President. "Craig Springer has just this combination. His wealth of experience and successful track record will ensure the future success of The Granada as we continue to pursue our mission of being the premiere performing arts venue in Santa Barbara and the Central Coast."
Dr. Springer brings to The Granada a 29-year background in arts management and education. His highly diversified career includes work at Northwestern University and the University of Southern California. Most recently, he served as Executive Director of the award-winning Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, known for its unique architectural flexibility and its broad based arts and entertainment programming.

Dr. Springer holds Ph.D., Masters and Bachelors degrees in communications from Northwestern University School of Communication. Originally from Northwest Indiana, he currently resides in Costa Mesa, California with his wife Kirsten, a nationally recognized critical care nurse, and his two step daughters Lauren and Courtney.

Dr. Craig Springer, Exec. Director of the Cerritos Performing Arts Center, is responsible for programming and management of the CenterÂs 200 event season. The Center is one of the countryÂs top venues having received Performance MagazineÂs Venue of the Year Award, the United States Institute of Theater TechnologyÂs highest honor for design.
Craig was previously Asst. Dean of Cultural Arts at the Univ. of Southern California where he created that schoolÂs first professional arts and lectures series. The series included 70 dance, music, theater and poetry events, lectures on current events by internationally known speakers, and the LAJAZZ Festival, one of LAÂs largest jazz events. He also taught marketing and fund-raising for the School of Theater.
Before his time at USC, Craig was at Northwestern Univ. where he earned a BA, an MS and a PhD in Communications and was Director of Concert Operations for the School of Music. In that latter role, he programmed and managed 4 venues, a 30 event arts series and 450 public concerts by School of Music faculty and students and each year. He also taught contemporary communication strategies for the School of Speech.
