Cristi's Story
Life
I have one son, Weston, age 14. We still live in Lubbock and I doubt we will ever leave. Weston is in 8th grade at Irons Junior High and we live about 6 or 7 blocks from the house I grew up in when I was in junior high. The neighborhood is great and my sister's family just moved about 1/4 of a mile from me into the same neighborhood, so Weston now has his cousin Cody to hang out with as well as every other 7th/8th grader in the neighborhood (which is a ton). I finally broke down and bought him a cell phone last year, so I could keep tabs of him.
I am divorced and really enjoy having it just be me and Weston again. As I have told everyone lately, I will NEVER EVER EVER get married again, and I will sign that statement in BLOOD! LOL However, that doesn't mean I am not going to play the field from time to time, I just refuse to get married again!
We have 2 dogs - welsh corgi named Fancy and a rat terrier named Marty McFly (from Weston's favorite Movie - Back to the Future).
School
My biggest memories are all of the parties we had out in the middle of nowhere - usually in the mud of a cotton field. For those of you who haven't been to Lubbock in awhile. The field between Frankford and Papalote that everyone partied at, is now full of new houses (more and more everyday). And of course the infamous 34th street... where i have gotten every single one of my tickets over the years (no where else!) - think i will stay away from there as much as possible, lol.
My other memories...Expand for more
were of our typing class with Ms. Waldrup. Charles Addington was in my sophmore typing class and now he is my doctor - what a trip! Oh, and Jeff Snuggs, who I went to Jr. High and Elementary school with, is my dentist!
College
Melody Staton and I would stay up all night drinking diet coke with vanilla extract in order to cram for finals each semester. I had gone to school with Melody since 4th grade and somehow we both ended up in nursing school together.
My favorite memory of Melody is convincing her i was psychic for over 2 weeks... (long story, but a good one, lol)
Workplace
I got my RN degree from Tech immediately after high school. I worked at UMC for 9 years.
In 1997, I had a bright idea to try correctional nursing. I started in 1997 as the Health Services Administrator of the West Texas ISF in Brownfield, Texas. My sole purpose for getting this job was to get some administrative/supervisory experience and go back to the hospital. That was 10 years ago and I never went back. In 2003, I was promoted to the PNA Corporate office as Director of Nurses over approximately 7 prisons/jails.
Since that time, PNA has grown tremendously. It's a great company to work for and I plan on staying as long as they will let me.
I am now the Vice President of Nursing for Physicians Network Association in Lubbock. We provide health services in 23 prisons, jails, and juvenile centers in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona (for now).
Military
This is the one thing I haven't tried... LOL
