Cristy's Story

Life There were only 2 things I ever wanted to be when "I grew up" - a Nurse, or a Stewardess (they are called 'Flight Attendants' now-boy do things change, remember when your wore "thongs" on your feet?). Well, guess what, I am a Nurse - go figure! I first started out as a Nurses Aide while in High School. After graduation I went to NOC in Tonkawa to pursue my dream of becoming a Nurse - had a full ride too, between Grants & Parents. Well, I was finally free from the parents, so guess what - I went nuts! Partied HARD, never went to class (maybe twice in 9 weeks!). So, to say the least, I had to drop out of College, because my funding was shut off. I resumed my Nurse Aide career until 1989, at which time I began the LPN Program at Central Vo-Tech in Drumright. I was much wiser by then, & finally followed through. I graduated from the LPN Program at the top 5% of the class in 1990. I was a LPN for 7 years, and have been a RN since 1997. I want to go back to school in the very near future to get my Masters, then specialize in Family Practice as a Nurse Practioner. My family & I live in Cushing, in case you have never been to Cushing, it is between Stillwater & Tulsa. I worked at Cushing Regional Hospital for 14 years, I had worked in every department that nursing had to offer over that 14 year span. I became totally burned out, was needing a "change of scenary" so to speak, so I quit Cushing Hospital & am now working at Cleveland Area Hospital. Talk about walking into a time-warp! I have 3 kids (only 1 biological, but the other 2 our mine as far as I'm concerned, I love them just the same!) Jason-24 (step-son), Amanda-14 (biological), Carley-6 1/2 (step-daughter). I have a very loving, compassionate, kind, caring husband-Jay, the "Love of my Life". Jay is a General Contractor, and provides well for us. Jason, my very handsome (and single) OU Graduate son, is a teacher and coach in the Drumright School system (I am very proud of him!). He has my only 2 "grandchildren" thus far-"Grand-dogs", I sh...Expand for more
ould say! Amanda, my 14 year old going on 25, is a beautiful, mouthy, loving, hateful adolescent-who knows more than anyone! She is athletic and VERY social-must of got that from my sister Cindy (the SOCIAL part), she also has a beautiful singing voice, (don't know where that came from, I can't carry a tune in a bucket!) she is in the"Chorliers", and is a Freshman at Cushing High School. She was also is in the "Who's Who" of Middle School Students, nationwide. Hope she can maintain that good GPA throughout High School, and on into College. (Am proud of her too!) Carley is a first grader at Harmony Elementary in Cushing, she is alot like her sister, also going on 25, smart as a whip, and beautiful, and you'd swear she was an "adolescent" as well, if you didn't know better! (Just as proud of this one as the other 2!) I basically lead a rather normal, boring life - I do love spending the summers at the lake (any lake, as long as we can get our boat in it!), and enjoy spending time with my hubby and kids. School My buds were: Lisa Crenshaw, Gary Alexander(Both of them were my step-cousins at the time), Leslie Young, Kim & Mary Bellieu, Rosy(don't remember the last name-she was Jim & Judy Rogers foster child), and many more who's names have left me. When you hit 40, everything, including memory goes quick! I had several "crushes" and several steady boyfriends, but we won't go there! My buds & I would jump in my car & go out for lunch, which usually meant we didn't make it back in time for the next hour-I was always the oldest, so I could buy the BEER..........no further discussion on that one needed! Harry RedEagle was my principle-he pretty much let me get by with a lot of crap......I had ankle surgery my senior year, so was on crutches the biggest part of it. When I didn't "accidentally" show up for school, I told him I had a Dr.s appointment, I he let me off without calling my Mom, he probably knew I was skipping, but he never let on-and he never called my Mom! He was pretty cool I thought!
