Workplace
My first 6 years after high school included Army time and obtaining an accounting degree from the U of U in 1963. I then joined the us General Accounting Office in Los Angeles where I worked on federal audits of the park service, Atomic Energy Commission, NASA, and DARPA. In 1965, GAO moved me to Hawaii and I spent the next seven years doing audits and reviews of various military activities related to the Vietnam war. This involved extensive travel to Asia including lengthy stays in the Philippines, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. From 1973 to my retirement in October 1995, I worked primarily on international trade and finance programs and activities, including Peace Corps/ACTION, international aspects of IRS, nuclear nonproliferation programs, energy security and the strategic petroleum reserve, implementation of the General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs' Subsidies and Antidumping Agreements, and negotiation of free trade agreements with Canada and Chile, as well as NAFTA.
Since retirement from the federal government, my work has been limited to seasonal commercial preparation of tax returns.
