Cynthia's Story

Hello classmates, I lived in the small town of Clermont, In, on Tansel Rd. (where the US Post office is today). I quit school to get married. I thought I loved him at the time, which I regret, But I really got married just to get out of the house!!!! I did however have 3 beautiful children with my ex-husband, they are my whole world!!! We had our ups/downs and after being married for about a month or so, I became afraid of him because he choked me. I was afraid to leave him. I let it go thinking he'd change. After 3 children, and being abused emotionally, and later turned into physical abuse. Sometimes I would file a police report and they'd take everything needed to prosecute, but I was also afraid I couldn't take care of my children. After my parents told me they didn't want to get a call to identify my body instead come pick me up. I finally realized I needed to get out of that relationship. So I left him and filed for divorce and went into a shelter for women & children. After 4 years of being single and trying to care for myself and my children. I happened to run into the 1st love of my life or crush, from the church I went to as a teenager. He was going through a divorce. We got back together in November 1988 and married in him on November 26, 1992. We've had our ups and downs as well, he is not abusive in any way. We know in our hearts we were meant to be together. He is my best friend. In June 2000, my husband's hands/fingertips began peeling and hurting to the point he could not work as an Alarm Technician. The doctor's in the ER, at Wishard Hospital, diagnosed him with 'Lupus', they put him on blood thinners to help with the circulation and told him he needed to moved to a warmer climate, so we moved to California, where we lived with his Mom and Step-dad until he healed, which took 4 months. During this time of healing, and with him being in the Army, and a retired veteran, his Aunt on his Mom's side suggested he go to the Veterans Hospital to see if he was eligible for healthcare through them. They told him he had been eligible since his Honorable Discharge, but he never realized it. Anyway, his doctor at the VA said he did not have 'Lupus', that he had Buerger's Disease (Associated with Vascular Disease). They had ...Expand for more
no known cure so after the 4 months of being unable to work, his hands/fingertips had finally healed. He was so happy to be able to return to doing what he enjoyed in Security, Alarms & Surveillance. I may not have graduated with all of you my classmates in 1978. However, while living in California, I returned to school in September 2003, I attended Clovis Adult Education. It was similar to night school, I would go to the school 1 evening a week to get assignments, turn them in, and take tests the following week until I graduated in June 2005. I was able to walk during the Graduation Ceremony. I am so happy and proud of myself I went back. I also still have my cap, gown, and tassel. After living in California for 9 years, my husband was disabled from 17 Hernias in his stomach. We could no longer afford to live independently on our own and decided to come home to Indiana, to be near our children and grandchildren. This is where we will live out our lives. We stayed with our daughter for a couple of months until we found our own place. (9-12-2019) UPDATE: My husband had health issues mostly from the Hernia surgery. The doctor said it would take a long time for his stomach to heal properly due to his weight. We were still trying to get it healed, and still had weak/thinning areas in the skin as it grew together. On 7-1-19....he coughed and we both heard a pop and I looked and saw blood and a dark brownish/black ball like something. I had to call 911 and the Paramedics said his intestine burst and took him to the hospital. He had 2 surgeries, had to be kept on a ventilator for almost 3 weeks. His doctor said his heart and kidneys were having trouble keeping up with the treatment. On 7-20-19 I got the call at 4:30 am to have ev1 come to the hospital. I knew he was tired of everything because I saw it in his eyes 2 days earlier when he looked at me, I saw a look as if telling me he doesn't want to go on like this. So, I took his hand in mine, and I prayed and gave it all to God. I'm sad to say, my best friend and husband passed away 2 hours later after I told him it was ok for him to go, and I didn't want him suffering anymore. That is when his heart and kidneys failed. RIH my love....we will meet again one day.
