Life My Spouse We worked together at Macalester. We've been married since August 13, 1982. He won me over when he shaved his beard for the first time in 10(?) years. Once I saw his clean-shaven face with the most adorable dimples, I was caught. Over the years, we've had things to cry over and things to laugh over. Still, he'll give me that twinkling brown-eyed, dimple-cheeked smile and I'm caught all over again. Unlike my expectations, I have found marriage to be 1) work and 2) a choice. Because I choose to do the hard work and because he chooses to do the hard work, we remain married. Once either of us chooses not to, or believes there is no choice in the matter, our marriage will end. We're too scrappy to let our marriage die quietly. Speaking of scrappy, one of my biggest pet peeves are the babifying of cartoon characters. I despised the Muppet Babies and I hated Scrappy Doo. In their adulthoods, these characters were of differing ages. How can someone be so presumptuous as to make them all the same or nearly the same age?! Fortunately, the Muppet Babies aren't in syndication anymore and I can easily skip over Scrappy Doo. Oh, I did love the live action Scooby Doo movies. (No spoilers here.) My Pets C.C. (Crazy Cat) is settling into her mature years. She's not fat anymore, but she's still short-haired and a bit nutty. C.C. is most definitely the alpha cat. Abby, the domestic long-hair we adopted from the Humane Society is still fairly mellow, although she how will swat at C.C. totally unprovoked. Is this playing? Just days after the anniversary of my father's death, we said goodbye to C.C. She had lost lots of weight and didn't have any obvious health problems. The vets said it was probably cancer.
