Cynthia's Story

Well, its July 16, 2014, I just wanted to do an update in my status. My husband passed away April 16, 2014. It is hard missing him, he died 2 days before our 44th wedding anniversary, so I am now a widow. That is a word I find very difficult to say, we have been together for so long I don't remember what it felt like to be single. I know I will have to get used to it but it seems strange. I will write more after I find out what life holds for me, in a few monthsI will be traveling to Seattle to visit my son and to just get away for a while. Thanks for letting me have this site to tell my friends now and then what is happening in my world. Life for me after graduation: I went to cosmatology school and received my accreditation, passed the board exam. I worked in a Grosse Pointe Salon, not my favorite job. I started working at Tek-Ni-Kal Credit Union as a cashier. I worked there for 5 years, started as a cashier, promoted to Head Cashier, then I was trained as a Bookkeeper. I met my husband while working there, my future sister-in-law introduced us. We married April 18,1970, 44 years together. My husband James J. Murray Jr.(class of '58 St. James in Ferndale) was a Mechanical/Computer Engineer, retired and 100% service connected disabled.. I have had to admit to myself that I cannot care for my husband and have had to put him into a nursing home. Very very hard decision to make. The first year we married I miscarried a baby boy in my 6th month. Two years later, while in my 6th month of expecting my second child, I again had complications and ended up with total bedrest the entire remaining months of my pregnancy. December 29, 1972, James Joseph Murray III was born in Michigan. James is now 40 years old, he lives in Seattle, Washington for the last 20 years. The last 17 years, he has been working at Microsoft. He is now part of the management, just recently got a promotion James is still looking for his mate, January 28 1977, Jennifer Rose, was born, in Michigan. Jennifer is married to Paul Hastings, Their children are grandson Alex 17 & granddaughter Annaline Ella 10 She is now living in North Carolina, and is manager of Chili's restaurant. We moved to Kansas for a job offer at Boeing November 1, 1981 we were blessed with our 3rd child, Stefanya Marie.Murray McGuckin she is married to Vaughan and they have one child, Connor who is four. Stefanya is the owner of Rhythmic Sky Dance Studio in Big Rapids Michigan., She is in her 13th year of business. Her Competition teams are Regional Champions and while dancing at the World Competition they took 4th place. In August 29, 1983 still in Kansas, we were surprised with Meagan Rose.Murray Kneele. After the divorce she went back to Murray. Our youngest, Meagan Rose has one child Lucie Jane Kneale. Meagan is engaged to Josh Bell. She earned her Bachelors Degree at Baker College in Medical Management/ Hospital Administration. She is also teaching at Baker in the Medical Billing etc. program. No date has been set for their wedding at this time. She is now working for the Family practice at Spectrum Health as the Administrator of the Medical Staff. My husband has three daughters from his first marriage. All were born in Michigan & Colorado. The oldest Jacquelynne, has 3 children, Bradley, Brendon and Bethanie, They all live in Kansas. Bethanie gave us our first GREAT Grandson, Aiden. Jerrilynne has 2 children, Ashleigh & Nicholas they live in Iowa. Jocelynne, Jim's youngest daughter has 2 children, Robert, who gave us our 2nd Great grandchild & Sean. We lived in Ferndale the first 10 yrs.of our marriage, Jim worked for Fruehauf Trailers, we moved to Wichita, Ks. in 1980 for Boeing Aircraft where he designed the 747 & 757 aircraft. In 1985 he changed jobs and moved to Beech Aircraft. Along side Bert Rutaan, he designed the "STARSHIP" corporate aircraft. We lived for 6yrs in Ks. Connecticut called in 1986, Sikorsky Helicopter in Stratford, Ct. 11 yrs there, designing the new Blackhawk Helicopter. Once government contracts were cut, Connecticut became like the big 3 in Michigan, a ghost town. He worked for Phizer Pharmaceuticals on computers, then Electric Boat in Groton Ct. on Submarine design. Two weeks before Christmas 1995, our house burned down, lost everything we worked for, 25 yrs. We then moved to Old Lyme, Ct. In Feb.1996, Jim was laid off from Electric Boat. The government budget cuts hit again, hard in Ct. about In July 1996 back to Michigan we came, both sets of parents were gone, we still owned the family...Expand for more
home on Albany, but decided to move the family to our summer home in Hersey, MI., on the Muskegon River. Living on the Muskegon River with all the nature around us is wonderful. I do miss the city at times, it took only 1 hr. to get into either, NY or Boston. Now it takes me an hr. drive to shop in Grand Rapids. When we moved up north, Jim's health started to decline so he officially retired. While in the Air Force, he developed 'Lupus' from chemicals used to cleaning out the tubes that carry the bombs on the large aircraft. The VA granted him service connected 100% disability in 2012. In the last several years his Lupus has become very active, he has CNS, has had 5 heart attacks and many strokes, he has TIA's because Lupus is in his brain now. In 2007 he had 3 way bi-pass heart surgery. March 2008 his right foot was amputated due to sores on his foot that wouldn't heal. Retirement is not for women, we never get to rest. Thats it, my life certainly has not been boring. School I attended St. Marks school until 1961. I went to Fitzgerald High graduated n 1965. I went to State College of Beauty and received my diploma in a record 20 months. After taking the state exams, I received my license to practice. Some of my classmates from St. Marks went to St. James and Selecian. If you are any of those contact me and we can get together. Thanks Workplace After graduation from Fitz, I attended State College of Beauty, I graduated from Beauty School and worked in Salons in Grosse Pointe/Birmingham for several years. I moved on to the financial field. I worked at Tech-Ni-Kal Credit Union for 5 years, started as a Teller, eventually became Head Teller and finally Bookkeeper. In 1970 I had a miscarriage and was off work for a while. When I returned to Tek-Ni-Kal I worked another 2 years before I got pregnant again. During that time I ended up as Assistant Bookkeeper/Head Teller. I was the boss, It was great!!! Due to complications with my 2nd pregnancy my job was eliminated. I did not return to this position because I became a full time homemaker(domestic goddess, LOL), I stayed home with my children (4 children over the years) until my youngest, born in 1983, started kindergarten. We lived in Connecticut and I started my own cleaning business. I cleaned homes for the 'rich and famous', Sally Jesse Raphael and Art Carney, Yale/New Haven Hospital's Head Nurse, New Haven newspaper editor, 3 psychologists, their business offices and their homes, our dentist, our vet, several business owners, also a few businesses for 9 years. We moved back to Michigan in 1996, after a series of personal disasters in our lives. (See my life bio.) We have been living in Michigan for 18 years now. I have retired from working with my daughter, since my husband needs me now, I will be his nurse along with everything else that goes with caring for him. This is the start of another new chapter in my life. Well, new development in our lives, on 1/28/09 I was traveling on US10 toward Ann Arbor for a VA appointment and I hit a patch of slushy snow, rolled the car 2 times, and ended up off the highway about 100 feet. My husband was injured when he saw the ground coming toward him, he put up his hands to protect him face and ended up with 15 stitches in his knuckles. I have a little trouble with my back, but on the whole we ended up ok after that type of accident. The paramedics and the tow truck driver, both have seen several cases like this one. They all said they were shocked we got out of it alive. So take a look at my photos, I put the pics of my car there. My sister passed away from kidney failure in 2007. At the same time, my husband underwent 3 way Bi-Pass surgery. In February of 2012, due to complications with my health, I am now starting to take care of myself. With all the lifting I did to get Jim into and out of bed, my back has gotten worse. I have Spinal Stenosis, along with that I have been diagnosed Diabetiic. Now dealing with the bloodsugars and Neuropathy in my feet, legs and hands. I don't know when all this happened, all I know is my "Golden Years" have turned into muddy years LOL. Well, thats all for now, hope to hear from more people from my past. Oh, I really laid it all out there, wow, you know you gotta take the bad with the good. I have had a life that has been full of adventure, It makes these years seem like just another journey, I will make it to my end too, with my children by my side, and my grandchildren along for the ride. Seattle looks really good right now, I may just stay.
