Cynthia's Story
Completed my degree in English (emphasis on literature) minor in history and was fortunate enough to be able to do a semester in Britain. My dream would be to be able to move to Great Britain, perhaps buy a "Miss Marple-esque" type cottage (or old castle ... dream on!) with enough land for my dogs and to keep a horse.
Favorite job I had was managing an equestrian facility in Menlo Park, CA and can't ever see being without at least one horse on which to hack around. Used to quite often go 'horse camping' here and it was a magical time. I also enjoy riding dressage and was an officer in our chapter of the California Dressage Society. Had I enough money I'd open a rescue facility for both dalmatians and horses for the older I get, the more I realize just how superior animals are to humans.
My hobbies (other than riding/hiking and golf) are rather sedentary for I enjoy knitting, crochet, all types of needle...Expand for more
work (needlepoint, cut work, hardanger, counted thread) and also enjoy making bobbin (also called 'pillow') lace. I also am partial to reading and can never resist buying books. Luckily I have a very indulgent husband who doesn't mind one or ten of my thousands of books (way too many) laying around the house. I prefer reading the classics (anyone remember Miss Rozich?) with an emphasis on the victorian writers and Shakespeare and also read anything having to do with the history of the Victorian and/or Tudor era.
I also am an avid golfer. Had someone told me earlier I'd love golf, I'd have bet the house they were nuts. But, there you are, even at this age life can surprise one.
Hubby and I enjoy travelling to Europe and feel more at home there than here. Summer of 2010 will find me back in England once again at the Oxford/Berkeley summer program at Merton collge in Oxford Victorian Studies. Life is good.
