Cynthia's Story
Life
I moved to Canada in 1974. Got married to Ron Strem in 1977. We have 3 children, Vincent (26), Grant(25) and Susan(23). Grant married Elissa several years ago and Vince married Tracy June 11, 2005 (see photo - that's me in pink.) Vince is beginning his teaching career this fall - teaching band to Junior High students. Grant is just finishing his geology degree this coming year and Elissa is a teacher. Susan is dating Rob and attends University, with an eye to getting a teaching degree. I went to 2 years of University before getting married and went back to school in 1986, graduating with a teaching degree in 1991 after 5 years of part-time study. After starting my teaching career I went back for 3 summers and got a post-graduate diploma in fine arts (Kodaly Music.) I enjoy travelling with Ron and have been all over most of North America as well as Europe and Hawaii. Ron has a motorcycle and we have had fun taking shorter trips on that. I have recently joined a Sweet Adelines chorus and have had a real blast singing in that. I currently teach grade one students and really enjoy what I do. We have an 85 pound Husky-Shepherd cross named Koko. I am currently working on making a quilt - I think this one may actu...Expand for more
ally work out! The other quilts I have started or completed have not really been to my satisfaction. Ron is an electrical engineer but he also has many practical skills and has renovated the house himself, rebuilding walls, wiring, plumbing, etc. - everything except the drywall. I don't want to bore you with too many details of my life, but...if you want to keep reading...
The sad things that have happened to me is that my mother died of a brain aneurism in 1984 and we have all missed her dreadfully. My in-laws have passed away more recently, at a more elderly age. My father fell 2 years ago and broke his neck. He is not paralyzed, but has had many adjustments to wearing a neck brace, etc. He remarried 15 years ago and both he and his wife will be moving into a condo attached to an assisted-living residence this fall. They live in B.C.
My sister Laura is married and works as a Health Records Technologist here in Calgary. She has 3 children. My brother Lloyd is married and works for State Farm Insurance in Illinois. He has 3 children. My brother Shafer works as a minister in Edmonton, Alberta, is married and has 2 children and 2 grandchildren.
I look forward to the rest of my life!
