Cynthia's Story

Life Dec. 22, 2005 Hey everybody! I'm finally getting back down to PR after 10 years! I married this crazy guy named Carlos at El Faro, Cabo Rojo 10 years ago. I have 2 stepchildren, Stosh (21) and Natasha (19). I have a 13 yr old dalmatian named Coco Pepe Squentli and a cat named Midnuit. My Spanish has gotten worse and worse, but am hoping this visit to PR polishes it back up. I try to read Spanish novels once in a while, and there is a local paper La Voz Independiente that I pick up. We live in Asheville, NC, a beautiful mountain city, but nothing as lovely as mi isla de encanto. I work as an illustrator and Carlos continues to run our design company and gallery. My father still lives in PR and has been married to Amilda's mother, Sylvia (who still works at IAU) since 1986. Amilda is now Amilda Clark (previously Fitzmaurice) and has marine scientist husband and 9 year old daughter. Kambra Phoebus, a naturopathic doctor now, is setting up a Naturopathic clinic in Ukiah, CA. Wow! My initial reason for signing up is I am looking for Ivette ( and I can't remember her last name!) She was in my class at SESO for maybe not even a year, during 9th grade. Then she went back to the other school (Hostos?). Her friend Maria took her and I to Europe. Ivette's sister is Pura, same as her mother, and they lived in a neighborhood overlooking Mayaguez. I would also enjoy catching up with other alumni through email, see what's...Expand for more
up. Hope all is well with all! Cindy Potter School No way am I telling who my biggest crush was...but he probably knows? What crazy teachers we had. Mr. & Mrs. Erion I remember vaguely as very funny people! Dear "misi" Cruz (now Quintana) so sweet when she got frustrated! Sra. Ruiz with her "menos cinco!" with every bad thing we did, but that really is exagerado. I remember she used to rub her ink pen in her hair. But I must say, she made it possible for me to read, write, think, even dream in Spanish, and to appreciate Puerto Rican authors. And of course there is the amazing Mrs. Hunt constantly challenging and inspiring us with interactive exercises. I'm cringing now just imagining Mrs. Hunt and Sra. Ruiz reviewing my current writing, which I am sure has become atrocious! College Wondering where and what is going on with Elizabeth Mullen, Kirsten, girl from Trinidad (Denise?) , Robert Marquinez, from Graphic Design class of 90! Pretty nuts for a design class to rely on ONE working computer for 60 students! I really didn't think I wanted to be a designer after graduating...it was such HELL!!!!!!! But my first job was very rewarding. Now after 15 years in graphic design I am burnt out and have become an illustrator....take that Mr. Nichelson!!!!! My favorite professor was Dr. Roy Craven in Indian art History and I hope some of you had the joy to attend his classes. I believe he passed away some years back.
