3/4 with Playwright Frank Chin at the American Conservatory Theater, the first of many homes for the newly begun Asian American Theater Workshop, began my over twenty year membership along with my working history with San Franciscoâs New American theater⦠Frank Chin asked me to Assistant Direct/Stage Manager for his play with theater Director Janis Chan that day. I said yes.
Thus began my love of Directing, Producing and many other areas of theater. I directed scenes from Momoko Ikoâs âGold Watchâ and others downstairs at the little theater in ACT. I later in 1976 went on to Direct & Produce the now famous actor, Robin Williams in Harold Pinterâs âThe Loverâ along with actors Catalaine Knell and Marc Hayashi or Carlton Davis (early blind casting, integrated cast).
You never did just one job at the workshop/company so I also photographed many different playâs production stills, pr photos, did monoprints and theater lobby installations to go along with the theater productions along with AATW/C logo/flyers/etc⦠the theater also had a strong pool of talented graphic artists and photographers.".
