d's Story

Life After being bounced around by my original company for a few years in Management, I had a desire for some stability and always seemed to gravitate back to San Diego area. Bringing up two boys, one of which was in Special Ed, career and doing what most everyone wanted and expected of me, I am finally at a point where I can focus on what I want to do to make it feel like my life counted for something that was just my own. Having inherited my Mother's side of the family's genealogy interest, I have gathered quite an abundance of diaries, letters, documents, and added my own personal research on the internet. I have also traveled to other states to secure additional documents, photos, stories, along with extensive library, and courthouse appearances. It is my goal to create a family history book on a selective group of surnames, and add photos, names, dates, art, poems, memories. One that when read, you will feel as if you know the people themselves instead of just dry names and dates. One that gives you a sense of connection and bonding to the past and lay a good foundation to the future generations that wish to continue in what I have labored for so long. Even though it is painstakking, tedious and often filled with dead ends and false leads, It is a source of absolute enjoyment and important to me that each person's life be given its due as a contribution to family, life and place. I also dabble in creative writing, and poetry. I enjoy reading Native American novels which chronical their amazing culture and beliefs, Biography material at times, of past political figures at the creation of this republic and some celebrity stories, mysteries, sci fi, and Rogue Warrior series books that bring me back to old memories of being around the Navy base as a kid. School Being a Navy family, we had lived at Naval Housing ( just learned as of June 2004 that all the housing there was just torn down and I feel a profound sense of loss ) right behind St. Charles Borromeo School and Church. Having complete all the years available there, while they still used Nuns as teachers. I had moved from housing to a home during the 6th grade, where my ...Expand for more
parents still reside today. Susan Frisbee, I believe lived on the same street but down towards the end of the cul-de-sac, IF she remembers. I remember seeing her walk to Collier Jr. High. I am trying to remember if Barbara Stevens or was it Chris Magnasson (spelling is wrong) the same one that lived on Larga Circle off of Leland street, just down the hill from Poinsettia at one end and Midway Drive by the Frontier drive in? also was in Mr. Skidmores class in chemistry? at Collier? Sat right behind me. Been a while, so I could be wrong on the memory. Workplace 1970 to 1974 I had worked for the Naval Training Center Retail outlets. Starting off at the Milk and Bread drive thru then a mini market right next door. This was before they added the Commissary years later. Also worked at their garden shop, til I landed a job in Management in Kmart in fall of 1974. Transferred to Costa Mesa for training and on to Northridge and Lompoc for a total of 4 years and the birth of my first son. Came back to San Diego and worked at a store in Pacific beach as manager and then on to Moskatels Craft stores as Management. I asisted at 3 stores and managed 3 others during my stay. During this time, my second son was born. Went back to Kmart for another 16 yrs til I early retired in 1998 and took off almost a year before joining my current company in 1999. I voluntarily took a lesser position and gave the lead headaches to the younger kids. This gave me the flexibility to accompany my parents to my fathers navy ship reunions that are held annually all over the united states and affords me time to do my research in genealogy. It also freed me up to travel for this company to other states for remodels and new store set ups, without being tied down to my own set of stores and team. I prefer the freedom of freelancing for the company and they are not shy about using it, believe me! I had written an article in the Iowa Journal a couple of years back that was genealogy related and I hope to turn my personal hobby into one that might be used to make money, and create more articles in magazine and newspaper to further the education of others in this craft.
