D.J.'s Story
Life
After graduating from Menchville High School, I went to college at Virginia Tech. I initially majored in engineering but I guess unofficially majored in partying my freshman year. I had a great time that year but did not enjoy engineering and therefore spent too much time on extra-curricular activities. After that I switched majors to biology and managed to pull my GPA out of the gutter and make Dean's list both semesters my sophomore year. I enjoyed biology and continued to do reasonably well at it for the remainder of my time at Tech. Upon graduating from Virginia Tech with a BS in biology I went immediately to The Ohio State University to pursue my Ph.D. in microbiology. That summer I also married the girl I had been dating all throughout college but that came to a rather disastrous end later that year. Looking back, I know it was for the best that it ended but that didn't make it any easier at the time. I stuck with the graduate school thing and eventually got my Ph.D.. e right time to meet the love of my life. Her name is Tsuneo (pronounced tuh-nay-o) and we were married in the spring of 2000 and have been happy ever since. She also went to Virginia Tech but was there 4 years behind me so we never met there and she graduated with a M.S. in microbiology from OSU as well. We have bought a house and are now living in Fairfield, OH just outside of Cincinnati. We now have a beautiful baby boy named Gregor who was born in September of 07. My wife is staying home and taking care of him and I will be starting as an assistant professor of microbiology at Miami University in Ohio this August (08). We have 2 dogs, a golden retriever named Murphy who excels at dog agility and a mixed breed named Diego who can do agility as well but prefers to hunt squirrels in the yard. We like to do gardening and landscaping in our yard. We also enjoy reading, movies, and keeping up with news and politics.
