D.W.'s Story

If you've ever wondered... Wondered whatever became of me? I'm living on the air in Cincinnati - Cincinnati W.K.R...oops - i'm mixing up my life story with a song stuck in my head again! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Asking a favor to anyone signing my Guestbook - i'm finding that 55% of the signatures are from people i don't recognize/remember. Part of that totally comes from my always having been better with faces than names. It also doesn't help that i have no idea where any of my yearbooks from my Geneva years ended up so i can't rely on those to jog my memory. So if you take the time to sign and your profile doesn't have any "Then" photos in it, could you please also drop a note saying how we best knew each other? Something like: -"Freshman year French class" -"Pumpkin Sherbet Lovers Club Vice-President (1987)" -"We didn't have many classes together, but I worked with you at..." -"Friend of so-and-so" -"Little Brother of Friend of so-and-so" -"Pumpkin Sherbet Addicts Anonymous (1990)" -"You were the only other person in my grade who knew who Roxy Music and Joy Division were" -"We used to hang out at ..." -"We barely knew each other but I always loved watching you perform in..." -"I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar when I met you..." -"I borrowed your Bananarama tape and never returned it (I still have it if you want it back)" -"You helped model for my photography project" -"Kazandra always tried to get us in a band together because we both reminded her of a cross between Nick Rhodes and Simon LeBon" -"Fourth Grade Lunch - you got your chocolate in my peanut butter!" -"We masterminded the theft of Mr Yada's toupee" ...Something that helps jog the memory of this aging soul. Obviously if we were close friends and hung out regularly that doesn't apply (unless you got married and changed your name or something similar that might still cause me to go "Wait...who?") ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wait - what? A story? You want me to tell you a story? Oh my, i'm a bit rusty when it comes to storytelling (I've always been better with songs) But okay, what kind of story do you want? One with a happy ending? Or is fiction better? ---------------------------------------------------------------- BTW, if anyone's tried the Classmates/Memory Lane Top 10 Fave Songs list, it's awful - it only gives a select few songs to choose from, none of which were a favorite and you can't add your own choices! Seriously? So i'll post the REAL list here...in no particular order - faves from the 1990 school year: 1. Eurythmics - "Don't Ask Me Why" (I sang this for my vocal music final in college - now, you know without asking it was an A+!) 2. Pet Shop Boys - "So Hard" 3. Electronic - "Getting Away With It" (tied with "Patience of a Saint" from same album) 4. Chris Isaak - "Wicked Game" (One of my favorite songs to sing and bring down the house with) 5. Shakespears Sister - "Dirty Mind" (The original album version with harmonica and Joniece Jamison on backing vocals... NOT the inferior "Dirty Mind 1990" single mix with Marcella's rap) 6. ...Expand for more
Depeche Mode - "World In My Eyes" (Actually, this is my fave Depeche song of ALL time - not just from 1990 - tied with "Shine") 7. The Beloved - "Time After Time" (Really any song off their Happiness album could easily fill this space!) 8. B-52's - "Channel Z" 9. Real Life - "God Tonight" 10. Londonbeat - "I've Been Thinking About You" (Sh-bow-bow!) 11. Julee Cruise - "Falling" (Twin Peaks was my fave t.v. show from the time) 12. Francois Feldman w/ Joniece Jamison - "Joue Pas" (Just TRY to drive around with this song on the music player and not feel deliriously happy) 13. Peter Schilling - "The Different Story (World of Lust and Crime)" 14. Mighty Lemon Drops - "Where Do We Go From Heaven" 15. Seal - "Crazy" 16. Eurythmics - "King and Queen of America" (Official Theme Song of the 1990 Anti-Prom Spectacular!) 17. Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine - "Rent" (Best Pet Shop Boys' cover you'll ever hear!) 18. The Heart Throbs - "Dreamtime" (I could listen to this one over & over!) 19. Concrete Blonde - "Everybody Knows" 20. Deborah Harry & Iggy Pop - "Well, Did You Evah!" So yeah, it's a Top 20 rather than a Top Ten...but it was a great year for music, what can i say? (Once you got past the dreary mainstream, that is.) Don't remember the original source, but i recall hearing that the music that's your favorite around your senior year of high school tends to be the music that's your favorite for the rest of your life and in my case that's very much true. (All of these are highly recommended for checking out on Youtube or your fave music site) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "We were never being boring; we were never being bored" "There are two kinds of artists left: those who endorse Pepsi and those who simply won't." "Mahna Mahna" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quiz Time!: Who remembers (or knows about): - AXCOW - Pop Tart (this one could have a couple different answers) - The clipboard incident - "Look! A model's brain!" - Dead Bulldog Society - Valle Luna sombreros - "Doorkey doorkey doorkey..." - The secret identities of Mr. Spaceley and Dr. Marvin Monroe - KUKQ, the Valley's much needed shot in the arm - (Pine) Saul - Lydia the Tattooed Lady - "This is NOT funny!" - "I think it's cute how they sing about Spiderman, you know, like how Prince sings about Batman" - The Chopin/Sand's Goat Song - "Prima - Amore...WOW!!" - Putting on the Ritz! - "Ow! Quit it!" - AP trampoline - Earl, the dancing dog - The Hydinger flyswatter - "Now this time, you rattle and I'll tweet" - "Eating fudge banana swirl" - The graffiti-mobile - Pop Art (not to be confused with Pop Tart, upthread) - "Will YOUUUU, Birdie...." - "Ha! Just like James Brown" - Skanking to "One Step Beyond" / Blitz777 - "You put it in your HAIR?!" - Yuppity / Swelligant! - This is your life - Chemistry Caroling - Wang the Wong number - "But ya ARE Marce, you ARE stuck behind that guitar!" - "With licorice and jugs of wine for owls" - "Chicken soup? What is this? I don't get it." -- Recognition of any of these and/or their significance firmly identifies you as a Friend of D.W. (Prizes to be determined...) Tell me how well YOU scored!
