Dale's Story

After graduation, I went to work in the coal mines in Nicholas County while going to West Virginia Institute of Technology at Montgomery. After gradutaion, with a degree in mechanical engineering, I spent a year working at FMC, railcar division, in South Charleston. From there I moved into compressor station engineering and construction at Columbia Gas in Charleston. A turndown in the gas supply for Columbia left me job hunting and I moved back to the coal industry where I had such jobs as mechanical engineer, maintenance engineer and maintenance foreman. By 1980, I had enough of the ups and downs of the coal industry and took a job in Saudi Arabia with the Arabian American Oil Company aka Aramco. For fourteen years, I worked as maintenance engineer, engineering support supervisor, safety inspector and any other temporary opening that needed a little help. In 1982?, Aramco became the Saudi Arabian Oil Company and I then became an employee of the Saudi Government. Things got kind of interesting as I worked not only in oil production but also water de-salination, security and other senative areas. I was in Saudi Arabia, when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait and afterward during Operation Desert Storm. We had SCUD missl...Expand for more
es fly over us, FROG missles exploding near our oil installations and marine mines exploding on the beaches. Still I held on untill August 1, 1994, when I had enough, hung up my hat and returned back to Summersville West Virginia. Since that August day, I do what I want, when I want. I haven't had or needed a job since then. I own several pieces of rental property that puts bread on the table. I've also taken up the antique car hobby and have several in various states of repair or dis-repair. My prize is a RED, RED. RED. 1967 Plymouth Belvedere with a 426 hemi engine. I had it taken totally apart, soda blasted, painted and every part available renewed or replaced. It's a real eye popper. Other antique vehicles I own in good condition is my father's 1975 Chrysler, a 1971 LT1 Corvette, a 1957 T-bird, a 1966 Plymouth Satellite and a 1942 Ford GPW, (Looks like a CJ-2 Jeep but made by Ford). I have several other antiques that I'm sourcing parts for and one day hope to put in show condition. I live from day to day and decide when I get up in the morning, just what I'm going to do that day. On occasion, I do make plans ahead but not often. Heck, if it wasn't for HUD, welfare and food stamps, I would freeze and starve .
