Dallas's Story
Life
Following college graduation in the late '60s, I received a commission in the U.S. Navy and headed straight to Vietnam with the Third Marine Division. Eventually had three tours in Vietnam and decided that maybe the Navy wasn't a bad career choice afterall. After working my way up the ranks throughout the 1970s and a three year tour at the Pentagon plus a year at the National War College in Washington, D.C. doing post graduate work in National Security Affairs in the early to mid 1980s, I took command in 1986 of USS Gary, a guided missile frigate, homeported in Long Beach CA. In 1988 my ship was engaged in combat with Iranian forces in the Persian Gulf during Operation Praying Mantis...Expand for more
. Following another three year Pentagon tour, I assumed command of USS Cowpens, an Aegis guided missile cruiser, out of San Diego and saw action again in the Persian Gulf following Desert Storm. After 3 1/2 years in command of a battle tactics school for senior officers in San Diego, I retired from the Navy in 1998 as a captain and have been living in Northern Virginia, about 15 miles outside Washington, D.C. When not playing golf, baseball and travelling, I am a security consultant to the federal government. My two children graduated from Duke and Bucknell, and I have been married over 35 years to the greatest gal in the world (Dorsey HS, UCLA Kappa Delta Class of '68). Life is sweet!
