Dallas's Story
Life
Married my college sweetheart, Bobby Shealy, in 1979. Worked as a social worker and child advocate, then at Newberry College as Alumni Director and then Development Director. In 2004, I received a call to become Executive Director of South Carolina Lutheran Retreat Centers. I love being "at camp" in the rolling hills or "at the retreat center" by the beach! I have an amazing staff and am having the time of my life.
College
I loved being a student at Newberry College! My favorite memories are running down the hill to the Courts after getting my bid from Kappa Delta, spending time with Bobby and my sorority sisters instead of studying, concerts on the quad, going to football, BASKETBALL (remember our undefeated 1977 season!)and baseball games. Newberry is still the same great place it was back then. If you haven't visited campus recently, you need to come back!
I miss working at Newberry but have a wonderful new position as Executive Director o...Expand for more
f Lutheran Conference and Retreat Centers.
Hey, all you Class of 1980 folks...this is our TWENTY-FIFTH reunion year. How did that happen so fast? I talked with Clift Shealy the other day and we really ought to try to get a bunch of folks together at Homecoming.
Workplace
Does anybody really read this thing? Anyway, I changed careers in March 2005 (who would have ever thought I would leave Newberry College!! My husband used to say I would pay them to let me work there!) I had a great career opportunity and became Executive Director of Lutheran Conference and Retreat Centers of SC. I love outdoor ministry and and blessed to have been called to this position. We have two facilities; Kinard Conference Center in Batesburg-Leesville, SC (about 30 miles from Columbia) and the Coastal Retreat Center on the Isle of Palms (across from the beach, near Charleston) Would love to hear from some old friends...or maybe I should say some middle aged ones!
