Dan's Story
Well now ... I haven't stopped by here for quite some time. I've been lately thinking about how contact-lenses weren't around in our school days - neither were slip-in feminine products - nor were there many white afros compared to what would come around just 5 years later. Mash wasn't a series, SNL didn't exist, All In The Family was barely on the drawing board. Kinda funny how much changed and how much still hasn't.
Me? back in Texas after a year in the Rockies. Keep meaning to move up to Ohio for a while but just don't seem able to get that done. Talk about Northern California too but hain't got that done neither!
Retired the end of last year. Have been back in college a couple of years - Dean's list too ... don't know where that came from. I was upper-third at MF but barely a C student in college the first time, all those years ago.
I keep being amazed at how many people I graduated with that I didn't know. Keep being surprised at how many people stayed around there while I took off for the sky and ocean and mountains and deserts and woods. It's kinda exotic being from everywhere but it's also like never having had a home even though I coulda if I would have stayed ... but I couldn't stay ... I grew Teflon on the soles of my feet when I left for college ... and that's how it has been. In the last dozen or so years since I came online and first signed up with this site, I still have seen no clue as to where a few of my old friends went or what happened to them. They're not on facebook or the other sites. I suppose they just haven't made it to the cyber-world yet or maybe ... maybe ... aw heck, maybe I'll just have to wait to see them all again. Life is like that - always digging around to make sure we have the right tickets for the next trip or two.
So, I keep coming in here and adding things every few years. Guess that means I'll be back. 45th reunion coming and a personal promise to make the 50th. Hang on - I'll see y'all there. Peace & Love my friends.
Cool - I get to write more without renewing. What a deal!
So - I faintly recall being in Oregon. That all changed one December day - okay - actually, one October day but it took 6 weeks to look at that life point-blank and turn the key in the ignition. I am now a freaking Texan!! Can't believe that turn! Never would've stepped foot in Texas again but God Himself slammed me here like an old pair of dice slammed against a wall - like pitching quarters against the hallway walls in school - like slam-dunking a giraffe thru a laundry-basket. And here I am ... Hee-Yup, 10/4, Tell You Whut!
Playing some keyboards and often thinking about getting a job ... but feel just a little lucky that there aren't any in this little coastal "burg" north of Corpus Christi. I'll feel that way until I get a job, take on a bigger keyboard gig or my Oregon unemployment runs out ... whichever ... it's all good.
Well, I know Alan Wilson is down here somewhere - by Houston last I knew ... before Katrina or Ike ... and I have a ladyfriend who visits me from Houston every now and then - when she needs her brain polished by a Master (seems all I'm good for anymore is a little piano-playing and a little brain-polishing!)
I see there's a reunion coming. Good God!! 40 Years!! I'm holding out for the good one - the 50 year ... when every chick there will be single and all the muscle-bound boys got old and fat ... and maybe I'll be able to take those fingers of mine that I'll have left and play a love song to each and every one of you - just for the memories. Note: I have NO idea what our fight song or any of t...Expand for more
hat stuff is, anymore. Ain't playing it - let Terry B. play it on his Sax if he still can.
Hey - Devils - You Still alive out there????

Life
So, I'm out here on the Oregon Coast.
Been here about 9 months. It's about the prettiest place I've ever lived - and I've lived a lot of places around the country. It's also pretty cool that I can eat my cereal with HempMilk and put HempOil on my greens - but I suppose y'all Ohioans might not know what hemp is huh? (hahahahahahahaha).
(okay - found out that you do, indeed, know what it is).
I think about school sometimes and how many lifetimes ago that was. I still get a wave of nostalgic pride every time I think about when, I took my son into Marion-Franklin one year ... school hadn't started yet so we roamed the unfamiliar halls a bit and talked to the janitor - who advised me that evening football games at MF were a thing of the past ... seems the gang-fights never cleared up. Now, I'm a peaceful guy - a wannabe pacifist and have been since I left y'all - except I like a really big bomb or a really neat wreck or an evening of body-slams or uppercuts (on TV) - but I got such a wave of pride at that revelation that I forgot to ask if we'd won all those fights that changed the world or not and most important, did we beat South?
I ain't heard of none of y'all since about 1970. I saw Larry Case and Steve Johnson and another year or so later I "bumped" into Glenn Miller ... er ... Howard ... no ... Glenn ... no ... aw heck - ran into him in the service down in Floreeda - saw him in the mall in Columbus a couple years later while I was there by surprise.
I was lucky to have the friends I had. Quiet idiot gently roaming the great halls. I remember most all of you - but every now and then, on the updates, I have no clue who the person is. Well, most folks be wondering that about "Ol' Coondog" as well. First, his name wasn't Coon - it was Rice - although nobody else knew that. Secondly, he changed his name to Cote (Cody) when his son was born ... something about not carrying on a name that wasn't mine ... and I didn't really know about the "Rice" thing yet.
Spent most of 30 years in the Rockies. Climbed almost every one of them - for a living! Explored it, surveyed it, recorded it, blew it up! All the deserts too - in the west. Lived in California a couple of times. It was cooler than Michigan. Lived in Texas a little ... horrid little dust/mud bowl that it is. Lived other places too. Lived in the mountains without water or power and plenty of horses and mules - raised both. Lived in Tipis and tents and campers and RV's, lots of motels - started road-jobs when I was playing music right before the draft and just took to the road like gray paint! Love it. Can't understand why these womenfolk who get in my life keep wanting to settle down - there're still more horizons to chase.
Anyhow, probably won't see any of you again this go-round ... but hope to catch up with you on the next.
Remind me some time why I should pay for a membership here ... I mean ... I would ... but they want money. I'm sorry but Ronald Reagan took most of my money. An ex-wife got most everything else. Look friends, sometimes there is nothing more to life and success than a chuckle that comes when you need it - and I do a lot of chuckling. So, I wish you all some laughs - and doncha know I steadily wish better things on you as well.
So, if you're one of those folks who actually paid to read this ... hahahaha ... Peace. Doheye. Palemaya. Pila Huc. Ciao.
Fond Adieu's.
