Dan's Story
After H.S. I headed to Eastern Oregon State. Graduated in '74 and took my first teaching job at Silvrton H.S. From there it was on to Oakland for 5 years, then Burns for another 3. I met Karri (wife)in Ephrata, WA while working a summer baseball camp during the time I was at Burns. She was from Salem and that led to a move to the Willamette Valley (Salem) and I taught and coached at McKay H.S. for the next 21 years. Had a son (Brock) and daughter (Yancee). workshops on differentiated learning for teachers. Coached baseball at Silverton the past 5 years, after being in the college ranks for the 10 previous and swearing I would never go back to high school coaching again. Now I am leaving that and going to watch my son play tennis (West Salem HS). I do some whitewater guiding, mostly on the Deschutes and the North Santiam and I work for an outfit called Adventure in Education. For me that means more guiding, but this is all school groups from middle school to college. I am busier in retirement than when I was working full time!
