Dan's Story
Life
A couple months after graduation I went to work at the service station on the base pumping gas. A couple months later my aunt died in Germany and my mother went to Germany to settle the estate. I moved to Detroit and lived with my sister and worked in the Knapp Shoe Store selling shoes. After my dad returned from Korea. I moved back to Fort Knox and got a job in the PX.
I was about to be drafted, so I enlisted had basic training at Fort Knox, advanced training at Fort Eustis and then after a couple months I went to Vietnam. From Nam-I was supposed to go to Germany but got my orders changed to be assigned to Fort Knox (my dad had retired and was living in Radcliff). I volunteered for an early out (traded 10 months of active duty for 12 months of National Guard!).
I got a job in Louisville and after I was laid off I got a job at Fort K...Expand for more
nox as a civilian firefighter. I worked at Fort Knox for 13 years until God called me into the ministry! At age 35. I went to college at Lindsey Wilson in Columbia, Kentucky and then to seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. During those seven years I pastored as a student pastor. I spent six years serving churches in central and western Kentucky.
In 1998. The Bishop asked if I would go to southeastern Kentucky and serve churches there. I served the first seven years at two small churches in Leslie County; then for six years to churches in Hazard KY; and then to churches back in Leslie County. I officially retired on July 1. I found a place to live here in Leslie County.
I never married, though I was engaged for a little over five years prior to leaving Fort Knox. I am currently living in the mountains of Eastern KY. Would be great to hear from you.
