Dan's Story

Life I moved to New York in 2002, partly to escape the trappings of rampant consumerism and materialism, in favor of a life filled with experiences and memories. I live in the West Village of Manhattan. In my opinion, there is no better place to live in New York City. The streets are all confusing, the houses are small, old and beautiful, and it is truly a neighborhood where people get to know each other. I’m surrounded by parks, and have easy access to the city and the world. I love walking the streets of Thomas Paine, Edward Hopper, Edgar Allen Poe, and Bob Dylan. I love meeting so many authors, artists, filmmakers, actors, musicians in the West Village – it’s a wonderful community filled with people who have strong convictions about where they live and what their lives are about. Also, from New York, the world is at my doorstep. I buy organic when practical, shop locally when possible, and participate in my neighborhood. I create spontaneous fun and adventure with my friends, and have a lot of stories to share. I know what I want from life. I am often quite silly. I am passionate and opinionated about many things, including city living for daily life, weekends surrounded by nature, and exploring new places as much as possible. I've traveled extensively. spiring nature or history, but am interested in just about everywhere. I love the waterfalls of Iceland, the abundant wildlife and mountains of Alaska, the neverending greenness and cliffs of Western Ireland, the architecture of Florence, the waves and lava tubes of Kona, the people of Santa Cruz, the ruins of Olympia, the sheep covered back roads of Zakynthos, the winding pedestrian streets and bridges of Venice, the holes in the beach rocks of Brighton, the small-town charm of Sausalito in the shadow of San Francisco, the Redwoods of John Muir Wood, the streams and trails of Squaw Valley, the spires of Bryce Canyon, and the unbelievable detail of Saint Sophia Mosque in Istanbul. I’m a good amateur photographer – a good picture always brings back a flood of images and smells and feelings of the places I have been. Music is a big part of my life; I like most music except New Country. I have an open mind, and tend to sing along with my favorites. You might find me on a push scooter along Hudson River Park, or in Union Square at the farmer’s market or the Strand bookstore, or walking my dog in the West Village, or everywhere in Central Park. I am the Director of Sales Engineering for a successful global security software firm. I work out of the corporate office around wall street.
