Dan's Story
Life
'84 - Bachelor of Music, U. of Michigan
'84-85 - Lived around 123rd and Broadway in the International House in New York, playing in the Nat. Orch. of New York. Everyone ought to live in NY once!
'87 - MM, Cleveland Inst. of Music; it's a conservatory affiliated w/Case Western U. Great school, but I can't say everyone ought to live in Cleveland once.
'92 - Never planned it, but. . . DMA, Ohio State U. Living in Columbus, playing gigs, doing research, studying with my clarinet mentor, and having some fun on the side was worth five years. As for the Michigan loyalists, ok, it took some adjusting to attend OSU. I went to the Michigan/OSU football game wearing my Michigan shirt under my OSU sweatshirt. . .I'm not stupid!
'92 - present -- full time clarinetist with the Nashville Symphony. . .and no, we don't play country music. We have numerous Naxos recordings (a Grammy and several nominations) and recently built a 123 million dolla...Expand for more
r concert hall. Nashville has grown into a fun place to live.
Another nice thing about Nashville is the opportunity to play recording sessions and teach part time (Belmont and Lipscomb Universities). The studio stuff is everything from Matchbox 20, to Martina McBride, to movies, to Christian music, to education arrangements.
Summers - Music festivals in Austria, Ohio, Colorado, and Italy (paid vacation!); visit the folks in San Diego.
(1996-8 - Middle Tennessee State U. prof.; I actually held the Nashville Symphony and full-time teaching job in cities 45 minutes apart. Never again!)
My house was built in 1909 and has a haunted history. I think maybe I've scared the ghost away by now? I have two cats and a rescued black lab mix named Carmen.
As an essential part of my mid-life crisis, I drive a convertible and just bought a jet ski. Ahh life. . .
PS: Despite serious relationships, I seem to be a permabachelor (don't look it up!).
