Dan's Story
Life
After spending a great childhood in Louisville OH, I attended Kent State (Biology.) When Kent was shut down following the 1970 shootings, I was unable to start my regular summer job, and instead got a job at Aultman Hospital in Canton OH as an orderly...my Mother was a nurse there, and thought I might like it. I really enjoyed the work, and eventually completed a BSN at Case Western Reserve, and then I joined the Navy as a Registered Nurse in 1976, staying for 23 years until 1999 when I retired. In 1980 I met my wife (then a Navy Dietitian) while stationed in Okinawa...we got married in Hong Kong in 1981. Upon our return to the states, we had boy-girl twins in 1982 who graduated from college a year ago and are now working (!) I have been stationed in Charleston SC, Okinawa, Oakland CA, San Diego Ca, and Bethesda MD. I am living in the Washington DC area and working as a healthcare systems consultant for several companies. My son Robbie is a CPA and...Expand for more
my daughter Jenny is an Interior Designer! They are my pride and joy.
I am recently divorced, and am happily moving on to the next phase in my life. I bought a wonderful home in Mt Airy, MD on one acre of beautifully landscaped property. Of course I will have to add my own touch! I recently also realized a long-standing dream and bought a 2010 Corvette!
Military
I joined the Navy in 1976 after getting a BSN at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland -- stayed for 23 years, being stationed at Naval Hospitals Charleston, SC; Okinawa, Japan; Naval School of Health Sciences, San Diego CA; Oakland CA, and Bethesda MD. I was also fortunate to serve aboard USNS Mercy for her maiden voyage to the Phillippines in 1976 as well as an an amphib exercise. My favorite jobs all were charge nurse positions, especially at Oak Knoll (9 West and 6 West). I am always happy to hear from those with whom I have served! From my travels aboard USNS Mercy, I became a Golden Shellback.
