Dan's Story

Hey old CdMers-- I only spent two years at CdM, but it marked my life in some deep and significant ways. The friends I made there were (and still are!) the greatest. I'm now teaching at a graduate school, a theological seminary if you must know, in Dallas. I teach Greek and New Testament exegesis. But during the summer months I usually go on photographic expeditions under the umbrella of a non-profit institute I founded in 2002: The Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts (csntm .org). Since this is my sabbatical year, I have the entire year free to travel...Expand for more
and photograph manuscripts. We use some really high-end equipment: Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III 21.1 megapixel cameras, MacBook Pro laptops, Mitsui Gold DVDs, etc. In our first six years, I've been to Egypt (Mt. Sinai), Jerusalem, Constantinople (Istanbul), Cambridge, Oxford, London, Muenster, Cologne, Dresden, Berlin, Albania, Rome, Florence, Milan, Paris, Vienna, Athens, several Greek islands, and many other sites. In the next twelve months, I plan to go to Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, and many of the previous places already mentioned. If you're in town, say hi!

Here's my bride on our anniversary--celebrating God's faithfulness and Pati's patience for 47 years! Great meal at Capital Grille! Thanks, Rob Marcello!
Students have claimed that I’m a hard professor. Twenty-four years ago this week (March 1997) I contracted an inexplicably bizarre form of encephalitis that did all it could to make me even harder—permanently so. The first
Just got in the mail another provocative book from my friend, Dan Kimball, How (Not) to Read the Bible. Dan is on the cutting edge of reaching out to the Gen Y and Gen Z crowd. Thank you, Dan, for sending this. Whenever a b

I don't officially make New Year's Resolutions, but I do find the January 1 event to be timed well:

The last few weeks I've started a new, intentional habit. It's no big deal, and this is not for everyone. Further, there are plenty of times that are exceptions. Here goes: I am trying to be conscientious about not placing
