Dana's Story

Life I was born in a small town south of San Antonio, and moved to Houston at the age of 2. Got to Alief in 1970 to finish out the second half of 5th grade and stuck around to graduate. Attended Univ. of Houston and marched in the band through 3 bowl seasons, met Steve from Baylor, married him in '81, moved to Waco a couple of years later and finished putting him through school, then went to Baylor myself. Education put on hold for #1 Kid in '88, #2 kid in '92, #3 kid in '96 -- whew! One of these days I'll go back to school and finish. Meanwhile, you can find me working in the Texas Medical Center -- if you really care to try. In the fall, I can be found with my butt firmly planted on a bleacher at a high school football game somewhere in the general vicinity of Katy ISD -- Steve's a coach. As much time as I spent in the bleachers in high school and college, you'd think I'd be tired of it. But I'm not. Summary: I have been greatly blessed with a husband I adore, kids I am profoundly proud of, and a future so bright I gotta wear shades! School Arrived at Alief (now Youens) Elementary in 5th grade (my 5th elementary school), moved on to Alief Middle, then Hastings (the year before Elsik was born). My favorite teacher was Doc Taylor (and it's so cool they named a new school after him). I lived for band, and didn't give a hoot if you called me a band f*g. You know, they ST...Expand for more
ILL call them band f*gs. Those of you who weren't in band... you were just jealous of the family we had. Yep... College I started out at U of H planning to be a band director, but realized after a couple of years that it just wasn't me. Good thing too, since I married a coach. We'd have never seen each other - except at games. I went to Baylor later going Elementary Ed., but realized that if I ended up a teacher, I'd probably end up in jail for smacking somebody's smart mouthed kid. If I had one in class like my youngest, it would have happened for sure (ahh but we love him). While in college, I lost my dad the first year, nearly lost my life in a bad car accident the second year, and met the love of my life in the 3rd. After we got married, we worked a while and moved to Waco for him to finish school, and I went after he graduated, but plans got blown out of the water by Baby #1. Probably for the best. I'll figure out what I want to be when I grow up one of these days. Workplace I work in the Texas Medical Center at the finest institution of its kind in the country. But nobody ever wants to be a patient here. It's a perfect fit for me, because I'm one of those people that has to be doing something for the greater good to be fulfilled. Before this job, I was in the Space Medicine Department at the Johnson Space Center. That was truly cool, but this is better.
