Dana's Story

MISC INFO - Last name is now Dossett but very sadly widowed in 2015. - No children of my own but PROUD of 3 awesome sons (Alpha line brothers) who have adopted ME: Reggie (Chief of Staff for the Little Rock school district at 37), Derrick (Mayor of Wrightsville AR at 36), and Carlton (an engineer/inventor at 36) as well as 2 godchildren, Jalan (boy, 24) & Mason (boy, 16) and 1 granddaughter, Octavia (Derrick’s, 5). Stacia is Director of Minority Affairs for the State of AL and owns an insurance business & Toy is in IT (Air Force - civilian). Their son Maurice is a PhD and a history professor at AL State & daughter Jaylin has her own film business. Both are Auburn Univ. graduates. - (‘81 GW Grad) Brother Kenny & wife Sandra are in Pine Bluff, AR. They’ve owned and operated Novel Ts, an ad specialty/screen-printing/e-Bay business since 1986. They specialize in custom products and family reunion services. No children. - Mother Oneita passed away in 2018 but had moved from Denver to Pine Bluff in 1987 to be closer to us (dad passed away in 1975). She was very involved in community service & lived next door to Kenny. For those of you who want more information about me, my (partial) resume best describes what I've been doing since HS graduation (updated 5/23): DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY PROGRAMS, City of Little Rock AR, 7/14 - Present - Plan, develop, direct, and oversee $5.5 million+ for the implementation of comprehensive community programs and services which include but are not limited to: Prevention, Intervention, and Treatment (PIT) Youth Development Services including In School/After School/Out of School Programs, Re-Entry Opportunities, Job Skills and Summer Youth Employment, Community Innovation Projects, Neighborhood Safety Projects, Community Violence Reduction Programs, and nonprofit/small business development. SENIOR PUBLIC RELATIONS SPECIALIST, National Education Association, Washington DC, 6/08 to 6/14 - LOVED living in the DC area! Served as an art director for all NEA publications and provided media relations, communications support, and assorted training to NEA national, state, and local affiliates and leaders to improve products and services to members. My main territory was the West, which includes Colorado. Can't beat going home on an expense account! GRANTS ADMINISTRATOR, Pulaski County, AR, 2/08 to 6/08 - Administered and marketed the EPA Brownfields Program for Pulaski County. Helped close the department’s first Revolving Loan of $775,000. EDUCATIONAL SYMPOSIA PLANNER, Association of Black Cardiologists, Atlanta GA, 2/06 to 3/07 & American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, Alexandria VA, 2/05 to 1/06 - Provided development, implementation, & reconciliation of clinical education programs, special projects, & pharmaceutical marketing...Expand for more
initiatives using a variety of communication mediums including live, print, & web-based platforms. (Rest of jobs all in Little Rock AR) PROJECT MANAGER, Heritage Health Magazine, 11/01 to 10/04 - Helped launch a regional bi-monthly, Black health magazine, circulation 40,000+; initially handled all copy-writing, proof-reading, art direction, graphic design, photography coordination, & production responsibilities, later supervised a 6-member staff & coordinated activities for writers, graphic designers, photographers & vendors. CREATIVE MARKETING EXPERT, Dana Fisher Communications, 1/88 to 10/01; and again 4/07 to 2/08 - Designed &/or produced various marketing, publicity, & advertising services strategies, plans & initiatives; provided creative development of collateral materials such as brochures, business cards, stationery, flyers, newsletters, souvenir books, proposals, banners, awards, t-shirts, etched glass, embroidery, etc. - Served as Special Events Coordinator for several local & state-wide community events, including an official City of Little Rock Millennium event (1999). DIRECTOR OF MARKETING & PUBLIC RELATIONS, Philander Smith College, 7/00 to 9/01 Achievements - assisted with grant research & writing to support the college's $30 million capital campaign (goals surpassed) - managed the August 2001 Tom Joyner Foundation scholarship campaign which raised more than $350,000. PROMOTIONS MANAGER/TALK SHOW HOST/MORNING SHOW PRODUCER, Power 92.3 FM & KOKY 102.1 FM, 4/98 to 12/99 Achievements - Coordinated 5 successful outdoor concerts - Started the 15-member Power Street Team - Designed & produced the radio personalities first-ever autograph cards; also produced a 30-minute promotional infomercial: A Behind the Scenes Look; both projects were later imitated by other radio stations. - Hosted a 30-minute weekly talk show, Friday Focus, featuring local, state, & national guests (KOKY); also served as executive producer for the show. DIRECTOR OF CLIENT SERVICES, Walker, Campbell, Ivory & Dunklin Law Firm, 6/95 to 12/97 - The largest Black law firm in the State of AR at the time. - Achievement: Within two years of implementing my unique marketing strategy, the obvious growth of the firm was commended as we received SBA's "AR Small Business of the Year 1997" Award. SENIOR CLAIM REPRESENTATIVE (Auto), State Farm Insurance Company, 12/91 to 5/95. MASTERS DEGREE (Speech Communication), August 1991, Arkansas State University. Served as President and co-founder of the Arkansas Black Student Association which lasted for 20+ years. BACHELORS DEGREE (Speech & Drama), May 1989, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Served as President: Student Government Association 87-89 (First to be re-elected to serve 2 terms), Pledged Delta Sigma Theta Spring 86, Tau Beta Sigma (band sorority) Spring 85 and Alpha Psi Omega (theater fraternity) Spring 87. (That how I got to AR in the first place. Followed my brother to college and got stuck there! LOL)
