Dana's Story

Life CHS alum: Missed lots of you '71 grads at the October 06 CHS Open House. Lots of fond memories as everyone in the Aud. sang the "loyalty" song. Here's hoping the "Castle" will remain standing as a landmark in the south St. Louis community displaying the proud Dutchman spirit! My family of one daughter, Jamie (15), husband (Steve) &two dogs, (Goldie, a Golden Retriever and Buck, a min Schnauzer) live in St. Louis County. Jamie is a freshman at Parkway North HS. My hope for her is that she enjoys her HS years as much as I did. So far, she is doing just that. A B avg her first semester while she was a cheerleader, played freshman basketball and learned the ropes of being in high school. She plays soccer, and various electronic gadgets in her down time. I remember Ms. Priest coaching the CHS BB team and pushing us as only she knew how. Steve has his own business as a manuf. rep for a variety of area companies. He loves his golf and any sport he can watch on tv. After teaching for several years out of town, I have been in STL since 1979. I have worked for American Red Cross for 23.5 years. My primary role their is as their AED (automated external defibrillator) Program Specialist. I work with schools, business, churches, etc. to assist them with developing and implementing AED programs. It's been great and I run in to CHS alum frequently as I'm out and about sharing the story. I volunteer with the school district and at church. ...Expand for more
I still see close high school buds 1-2 times each year for our "girls night" and it's always fun to catch up and see new pix of kids and now grandkids. Can that be right....grandkids??? I love being outdoors in my yard with the dogs or just piddling in the flowers beds that I try to keep alive. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, but I enjoy it. I enjoy long walks, especially when I take the pups for a run. We bike routinely at CreveCoeur park and occassionally head over the bridge to old towne St. Chas. My dad (plumber Bill) died in 1997, after a short, shocking two months with lung cancer. Mom remarried in 2001 and lives in South County. She plays volleyball a couple times a week, still bowls in what was the Woerner Ladies league and loves to travel when she can, especially on the bus to the casino when she has the chance. Renee and Deb both live out of town. Renee is in Memphis after stints in Atlanta, Nashville and Houston. Her son, 29, in NYC, and daughter, 26, in St. L. At least she is now closer to home. Deb has lived in Charleston, SC with her daughter (19) and son (17). She lost her husband several years ago. I miss both of them and wish the distance weren't so great.. usually try to get together twice a year. If you are ever in my area or would like to chat about old times, just call the Red Cross on Lindbergh and ask for Dana Garner. They know me. So long for now! CHS and the friends from there forever in my heart! Dana
