Daniel's Story
Straight to college after high school; pastored a couple of rural churches in Illinois and Kentucky.
I taught life skills and speech to severely developmentally disabled adults for a couple of years.
I then joined the Navy, saw part of the world -- Japan, Korea, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Karachi Pakistan, Scotland, England, Bosnia.
Retired from the Navy in 2002 and went back to pastoring until a staff cut in September 2008.
My wonderful wife, Anne, has been along for most of this ride and has counted it all joy. I'm the father of seven kids -- a son, five daughters, and then another son. All but the oldest son are still at home.
An as yet unidentified neuromuscular disease laid me out in the spring of 2008 and we're still adjusting.

Illinois' first Special Olympics soccer teams;
-- Chaplain to the Jockeys at the 2007 Preakness (besides the jockeys and press, I met Dorothy Hamill!);
-- lived in nine houses in five countries (Did you know that furnaces and hot water heaters aren't the same everywhere?);
-- driven in ten countries which led to being lost many time where I couldn't read the signs or speak the language to ask for directions;
-- learned sign language, Morse code, enough Japanese and Korean to find beer and bathrooms, enough Arabic to get back to the ship, and enough Spanish to serve communion, bless babies, and hold funerals;
-- attended the 1988 Olympics in Korea;
-- sailed on eight ships: three aircraft carriers, two cruisers, an LPD, an AGF and an LCC; and,
-- rode out two typhoons at sea
