Daniel's Story
Life
Georgia and I celebrated our 58th wedding anniversary in June 2026 Dan also celebrated his 84tht birthday and Georgia her 78th birthday in June 2026.
We have lived in the Ahwatukee Village area of Phoenix AZ now for 37 years. We remain in relatively good health and enjoy nature outings, concerts, museums and international travel. We have visited more than 80 countries, territories, and islands. Dan is finally completely retired from his careers in business and engineering.
We still see and communicate with FPH classmates, Gene Anderson, Gary Hornbuckle, Anne Martin, Lyle Haller. and Joe Heidel. Look forward to the class of 1960 reunion luncheon on September 25th, 2026. Contact Gary Hornbuckle or Joe Heidel for details.
We will be vacationing on the Oregon Coast the week before the reunion in September 2026 with the Hornbuckle's

Military Service
Gary, Paul (Simon) and I were raised in small country communities in the northwest, used to getting up early, having chores every day, and we were able to swim at an early age in rivers, lakes, oceans, and sounds, a prescription for success in the US Navy. Ken Denton, Dick Jefferies, and Jim Dovey, from the class of 1960, were Navy men as well. I completed my basic training, as well as my Interior Communications Electricians schooling at the San Diego Naval Training center. I achieved the rating of IC2 (Petty Officer 2nd Class). Gary Hornbuckle served in a US Navy helicopter crew with deployments aboard ship & to Asia in sometimes hazardous duty while Paul Simon spent his enlistment as a Jet engine mechanic. I served 3 years, 4 months out of my 4-year enlistment in foreign service/sea duty aboard three ships: USS Klondike; the USS Sirius; and the USS Mattaponi including two deployments to the southern and western Pacific and the South China Sea while Sargent Lyle Haller served in country in Viet Nam in combat operations. Dan received a "Thank you letter from the Secretary of Defense for his service during that period, last year.
